"My goodness, Sarah what is it!" Brian exclaimed.
"Yeah!" Lilith agreed.
"What was that for!" Rye yelled.
"Okay," I said, my voice shaky with fear, "I just got a text from a number with like, no numbers. And it says "You're next" That's what scared me."
"Oh my gosh," Lilith said, the color starting to drain from her face.
"We'll keep you safe, Sarah," Brian said, protectively wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"You guys should stop trying to find Kayla and Henry, you're just going to end up hurt, or worse, killed," Rye said. I ignored him.
"Wait a sec," I said, "Do you think that Kayla and Henry got texts like that? Maybe that's why Kayla started keeping a knife in her room, because of a text."
"Yes!" Lilith exclaimed, "Henry was really nervous and weirded out that nobody was there. But he was fifteen minutes early! Maybe the kidnapper messed with his clocks so he would come early and the kidnapper could kidnap him!"
"But how did the kidnapper know that we were going to search at that time?" Brian asked.
"The kidnapper must be hacking into our phones and reading our texts!" Lilith exclaimed.
"You guys did you even hear my last comment?" Rye asked. I ignored him again.
"Okay, so you said the text didn't have a number?" Brian asked.
"Yeah," I replied. "So we can't track him down that way."
"When is the one time that the kidnapper could hack into our phones and read our texts without us noticing?" Lilith asked, "When we sleep! So, we should play music on our phones all night, and if the music stops, we know the kidnapper is hacking and we can stop them!"
"Great idea!" Brian agreed.
"Yeah!" I added.
"You guys!" Rye exclaimed. It's kind of hard to ignore that. "Did you guys ever stop and think about how dangerous this is? You guys could be kidnapped and never seen again. And I don't want that to happen." He held Lilith's hand for emphasis.
"We know," I replied, "We have thought about all the danger that comes with this. And it freaks me out. But I know, it's for my friends, and we have to at least try."
"Rye, baby, I know you're worried but just trust us. I won't get hurt, I promise," Lilith said, kissing his cheek.
"Fine," Rye said. He kissed her back and smiled.
"Okay," Brian said, "What do you say we go home, Sarah?"
"Sounds good," I said, standing up, "Bye Rye, Bye Lilith." I waved goodbye and grabbed Brian's hand. We walked hand in hand out to the car.
