I ran.
My dirty, bare feet carried me as fast as they could across the cold, night-time sand.
I can hear him calling for me, telling me to slow down. He wasn't asking, he was demanding. He wasn't finished with me yet.
I have never been so afraid in my entire life.
He yelled for me again. I never slowed, and I have no intentions to. I know what he'll do to me if he catches me, and I will do everything in my power to keep myself from that pain again.
His footsteps grow closer and his words become louder; He's catching up to me. The adrenaline pumps through my aching body.
A shove to my back sends me tumbling to the ground. His heavy weight is on me, holding me still.
His weight shifts forward as he leans down and presses his lips under my ear, planting a single kiss there. "I've got you again, my Kaylee..."
