[one-shot//paige]

the light flickers.

i walk down the sidewalk, and the lamppost continuing to flicker. its lightbulb needs to be changed.

my feet guide me to nowhere in particular, and i push a strand of my hair behind my ear. i find a bench just feet away from the same lamppost, so i trudged over and sat down with a breath that i didn't even know i was holding. on nights like these is where i let my mind wander free.

a car passes by. the lamppost flickers again, and i glance back at it for a moment. for the past few days, i've come to learn that nobody cares of what happens to the lamppost, whether if it fell over or the lightbulb finally gave out. it's dying.

if they cared about the lamppost, they would've changed its bulb by now.

a song starts to play in my head, and without thinking twice, i begin humming to it. i bring my feet up and sit criss-cross on the bench. the lamppost flickers once again.

for an hour i hum different tunes that come to my head, and i take in the surroundings that haven't moved like yesterday. i notice time flies when you're busy just thinking and slowly falling asleep.

my eyes start to grow weak, and my body becomes exhausted the later it gets. i decide to now lie on the bench and look at the stars, thinking it'd be cool to fall asleep here in a place i'm familiar of instead of my home. i can still see the light from the lamppost.

the stars are a nice color. i feel comforted watching them shine bright in the beautiful sky.

"come with me," i say in a gentle tone, as my conscious stars to vanish until morning. i say with a yawn, "and i'll take you away if you let me."

i sigh with a smile, and the stars are out of sight as i close my eyes.

the light goes out just after.
