Chapter 1
I swore on the day my sister was murdered that I would stop at nothing to find her killer and make them pay, it has been a long journey for me but as I looked into the killers eyes I felt no sympathy for them I didn't care who they were, they were going to die today and I would still be able to sleep peacefully at night.
August, 2nd, 2001 four thirty: four hours before the murder. I sat in my room looking at my cap and gown on my bed I was going to graduate tonight one of the biggest nights of my life was going to happen in four hours I could feel the excitement building up inside me
"Clare, Tommy's on the phone" I looked up to see my sister holding the house phone she looked good I guessed she was getting ready for my big night her long dark hair was curled she wore a red t-shirt that went great with her tan skin, along with her favorite jeans.
"You know it's only my graduation you don't have to look that nice"
"Come on it's your night I want to look good for you" I laughed and rolled my eyes
"What ever you say Sam" She turned around and left but not before giving me the phone
"Hey Tommy"
"Hi babe, so are you happy we graduate tonight"
I smiled it still sounded so great
"Of course aren't you?"
"Yes, so what time should I came get you"
"Oh its ok my mom is taking me then Kevin will be home at nine to pick Samantha up" Kevin was my step dad
"So you're sure you don't need a ride?"
"Yes baby I'm sure don't worry about me"
"Well ill see you tonight at school ok"
"Okay, I love you"
"I love you to Clare"
I smiled and hung up the phone I set it down and my mom came in
"Clare?"
"Yes mom?"
"You do know your dad will here to take us to your graduation"
"Oh, dad's coming" I was never really close with my dad he left Sam, my mom and I when me and Sam were very young I was four and she was one
"Yes and try to put on a happy face"
"Ok mom whatever you say" I said and stood up from my bed my mom hugged me
"Oh I can't believe my little girl is graduating already"
"Mom please not this you're going to make me cry and were going to be doing a lot of it tonight anyway" I said and pulled away from her
"Just remember I'm always your little girl. I smiled and looked at her
"Forever and always" I replied and kissed her cheek. "I'm going to take a shower ok?" I said to my mom and walked away heading to my bathroom where I stripped of my clothes and stepped into my walk-in shower. I turned on the water and felt as the soft warm water spilled over my body. I felt all the stress for tonight wash down the drain along with my worries. This shower felt good and was well needed. After washing up I turned the water off, wrapped my hair in a towel as well as my body and stepped out I quickly traded my towel for my bath robe. I took my hair out and looked in my mirror. I took a good long look at myself, this was it, tonight Clare Jennings was no longer a high school student. My life would begin, I would have to go to college, get a small apartment big enough for me and Tommy, and I would have to get a job. The thought of growing up always excited me, until now that is, the truth is, now it kind of scared the hell out of me. In reality your excited to grow up, until it really begins to happen. I opened up the drawer with my hair products in it and produced my favorite ocean blue hair brush, I brushed my thick blonde curls until they shined with the light, Walking back into my room I had a bit of bounce in my step, I approached my closet and opened the door, I had my outfit for tonight picked out weeks in advance and I had changed it at least six times. I took it out and laid it on my comfy king size bed, It was a beautiful light brown sun dress, I chose it because it complemented my curves as well as my blonde hair. I stepped back into my bathroom and from the same drawer I took out my blow-dryer. It seemed like today my hair was taking hours to dry, normally it took me fifteen minutes, but today it seemed like I kept finding hair that hadn't been touched. After at least thirty minutes my hair was dry, I brushed through it once more before going back to my room to put my dress on, the thing I loved most about this dress was it was a halter top dress, I loved halter tops, I took my robe off and threw it on the bed, I picked up the dress and slid it over my head, I looked in my miror, not to toot my own horn but I looked absoulutly stunning, I had made the perfect choice for tonight.
