_____
In a company where your father's business is... you were busy ordering them around. One of those men, a human male with curly brown hair wearing a merchant-style shirt and a vest with two belts walked up to your desk.
“The shipments of goods were just received, madame.” He said, setting the papers on the table.
You took hold of the papers then looked over the paperwork as you nodded.
“Good. The shipment was on time.” You glanced up at the man briefly. “Is there anything else?”
The man let out a cough, glancing away from you. “Ah... yes. Your fiancée is here to see you.”
You felt your eyebrow twitch in annoyance at the mention of your fiancée.
“Oh? She is?”
You've never understood the reasoning behind your father's decision to arrange your marriage, and to an alpha of all people.
It felt degrading, being used as a tool to increase the power and influence your father craved.
“Very well. Tell her to come to my office.”
The man nodded and bowed politely before turning and quickly leaving your office.
Being an omega meant being viewed as a weak and inferior class to alphas. It was a status that carried the weight of traditional societal expectations.
Omegas were viewed as submissive. Their primary purpose was seen as bearing children and caring for families.
A small sigh escaped your lips as you leaned back in your chair, fingers drumming against the polished wood of your desk.
The weight of that fact settled heavily on your shoulders as being the only omega in the family apart from your mother. A rarity, an anomaly among a lineage of alphas and betas who thrived on dominance and control. Your father, uncles, cousins are all alphas or strong-willed betas running businesses with ruthless efficiency.
And then there was you.
Your status has always been... complicated. A strategic asset in their eyes rather than a true successor, no matter how much you proved yourself capable, maybe even more so than them. But tradition was tradition to people like them; omegas were meant for alliances and heirs; business empires were for those with sharper teeth and harder fists.
Creak.
Your thoughts were cut short as the door opened, revealing your fiancée, Nefer, standing there with that charming smirk of hers.
“Darling.”
Her voice was like honey laced with poison; sweet but dangerous.
Those damn lime-green eyes gleamed like she already knew how much you hated this arrangement. Your grip tightened on the papers you were holding.
“Nefer,” you replied coolly then setting the documents down. “What an unexpected... pleasure.”
The sarcasm was evident as you leaned back in your chair. “To what do I owe this little visit? Here to gloat? Or perhaps remind me of how graciously you’ve agreed to this... arrangement?”
Her smirk only widened at that. One elegant brow arched as she stepped further into the room with effortless grace like she owned it already.
“Oh my dear,” she purred, “Must every interaction between us be a battle? Can’t I simply drop by to admire my fiancée’s dedication?”
