CALUM
Ailaina had been acting rather strange during lunch. She wasn't even thrilled that I bought her a plate of taco fries to share. I've tried asking her if she was alright, but all she said was that she had a pre-cal quiz earlier this morning and think she bombed it. Understandable, I mean, she does really well so I see why she would be thrown off if she did poorly, but Ailaina is really good at math. There's no way she could've done bad especially on a short quiz.
I decided to just let her be and give her a bit of space. Was that a bad thing to do? Should I have spoken to her about it? Am I being a bad best friend? Nah, I'm probably over thinking this whole thing, right? It's probably just mood swings or a bad day or cramps or something. Or maybe she's wearing a new shirt and I didn't even compliment her on it! I always notice her new clothing or new anything in that case! How have I been so blind? How could I-"Calum."
"What?" I look up to see Datzkiw standing in front of me. "Oops. Yeah?"
"Why aren't you working on your assignment?"
"Oh, yeah, umm sorry. I just got a bit, uh... Distracted."
"Okay, get to it," he says then continues walking around the class, checking up on the rest of the class.
"You've got a bad habit of talking to yourself, you know?" I look to my right and see Luke sitting there. I honestly didn't even know he was sitting there the whole time.
"Since when did you come to class?"
He rolls his eyes at me and takes his earbuds out. "Who's the lucky guy?"
"What are you even talking about?"
"The one that's been occupying your thoughts," he says as he flicks his lighter on and off. "Who is he?"
"She's a girl, for your information, and who do you give a damn?"
"I don't," he laughs. "I'm just trying to make conversation."
"Why?"
No response.
I throw my pencil down onto my notebook, cross my arms and slouch into my seat. "Okay," I sigh. "It's just... It's Ailaina, alright?" I lean forward again and rest my elbows on the desk, cupping my face. "She was acting all weird today and I don't know if I did anything wrong."
Luke laughs at me and slaps his hand onto my back. "Of course she was."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"She's nervous."
"For what?"
A smirk creeps onto his face. "I'm taking her out at 5."
