— Cherry Slurpee
ALEXANDRIA HAD BEEN lost. It had been as though she had died and went to hell. A constant veil of gloom had been draped over her face, life as she knew it was flipped on its head. Ginny and Austin were gone, Georgia a wreck, and Eliza had been left to pick up the pieces.
The feeling of Alex's high temporarily lifted her worries from atop her shoulders. Her hands were lost in Brody's hair, pretending he had been someone else as his hands roamed her body.
Brody and Alex were nothing compared to what it had been with Marcus and Alex. She yearned for his touch, craved his body pressed against hers. Her heart thumped in her chest as she imagined Marcus's hand on the base of her throat, his breath fanning against the side of her neck.
For a second, she thought she seen Marcus's face, a gasp left her chest, a thrill of excitement rumbling through her body. The girl crashed over the edge, rolling off of Brody's lap.
When she caught her breath, she leaned forward and grabbed the bong, taking a rip. Her eyes avoided Brody's as she set it down and went on her phone. She felt his gaze on her, his hand on her thigh.
"Wanna do something, Al?" Brody asked making the girl blink twice. The memories of that nickname, the one Marcus had given her at a different time. The simple two letter name sunk in her skin, bombarded her bones.
Out of reaction, she recoiled away from his touch. She put her phone down, looking at him with glossy eyes. "Yeah... sure."
Brody decided to walk to the nearest gas station with her, goofing off like his normal self, his hands touching her at any chance he could grab.
All Alex wanted was a cherry slurpee, so she went to the machine, retrieved her only request and followed Brody around the store as he shoveled snacks into his arms.
It was silent for a while beside the door chiming when someone went in or out. Alex grabbed some oreo mini cookies, shoving them under Brody's arm.
He was internally debating what kind of Doritos to get when he broke the streak of his snack frenzy silence. "You should come to dinner with me tomorrow night. Just pizza and chill."
Alex hid her mortified expression, running her hand across the Lays bags, ignoring his question as she processed his words. The sound of the door chiming filled the silence for a moment.
"I don't know Brody. Dinner's a lot different than bong rips and having sex," Alex reasoned, her words came out humorously, her tone dripping with sarcasm. Brody didn't even seem to be hurt.
The pair turned the corner, Alex focusing on the snacks, didn't even notice Marcus right away. She looked up from the Dr Pepper bottle her eyes landed on, then found Marcus's brown eyes.
Her lips parted, her brain searching for the truth. Was he here or a figment of her imagination?
"Hey bro," Brody greeted, clapping Marcus's shoulder. He physically rejected his touch, backing away from him.
Marcus had his eyes focused on Alex for a moment before turning away. It became clear that he heard their conversation.
The boy Alex truly loved, wanted, and cared for stared back at her with a cold glare before turning around and walking out of the store. Her stomach swirled with nausea, her heart wrenching at the sight of his back to her.
Brody was clueless, he'd been as shallow as a puddle with these things. The ghost of Marcus's presence was enough to send her into utter shock. The sound of her feet sticking to the linoleum grounded her as they checked out.
