From the very moment of conception, it looms in the darkness,

Always stretching out it's claws when no one is looking,

But quickly snatching them back when he knows he might be caught.

As time goes by, it attempts to accomplish it's mission,

Using any chance it might have of elimination.

Hiding in the dark corners of life,

Sneaking up from behind.

Finally having a chance,

It's dark heart beating in anticipation,

But having it stolen, ripped,

By someone else.

Feeling it's lifeless heart beat fast in anger,

At having someone else complete it's mission.

It soon plans to take revenge upon whoever snatched his opportunity.

One minute he's death,

The next he's karma.

My heart was beating erratically in my chest. Sweat was dripping down my forehead, but I kept running.

"C'mon, run faster."

I attempted to catch up and he grabbed my hand, dragging me along as I matched the speed he was running at.

I didn't dare look back, in fear that he was there.

It was hard to see through the darkness, but the smell of the forest comforted me the tiniest bit.

"Is he following us?" She asked frantically.

"I don't know," I panted and gasped when I heard a thud. I turned when his hand slipped from mine.

"Go, I'll help her!"

She was on the forest floor, her leg stuck underneath a tree root that jutted out.

"Go get help!"

I nodded, running again. The smell of nature tickling my nose as I ran faster than before, running with purpose.

I had to get help.

Running around trees and dodging low branches, my heart almost jumped when I saw the road in front of me, just a few yards ahead.

I broke through the dark forest and began to run to the other side, when suddenly a bright light blinded me.

Before I could do much else, an intense pain exploded in my left side and I fell onto the hard road as darkness consumed me.
