"Miss Madden, would you like to step up and present to the class your speech."
"Of course, Mrs. Brooks" said Amelia with a smirk to her debate teacher.
As she stands up from her small school desk, she grabs her pink flash cards and head to the front of the class. Being the daughter of a very powerful designer, Amelia was a whole lot more mature then most kids her age since she grew up into a sophisticated and complicated world of opinion. She loved her debate class, and what she had prepare for this weeks speech assignment was for sure gonna keep some speechless by the end.
She gets to the stand, places her notes in front of her, and glares at the classroom with a confident, yet charming smile. Amelia was a tall girl who is fairly skinny, with some curves on the hips. She had long blonde hair, and deep green eyes. She sure knew how to catch the attention with those.
She glared at the back of the class and saw her best friend Sophia sitting with an encouraging smile. It gave her the confidence boost she needed to start.
"Hello everyone. The topic I want to introduce you all to today is something we see in our everyday life, but that we don't worry enough about, and that is body shamming. Body shamming can be found everywhere! In magazines, on television, on social media, and even here in our educational environment. Now some may be confuse by what exactly is the term body shaming , what does it involve? Essentially, it include every comment made negatively about someone's body. If Emily went on my Instagram, and posted a comment saying that she doesn't like the way my stomach looks in my photo, that is body shaming.
Now that is the more obvious kind of body shaming, because it does come in different forms. If someone comment on one of your picture, that you look like a skank, or a whore because of the way you are dressed, that ladies and gentlemen is body shaming. It is very commonly use over social medias nowadays.
In educational environment is where we see a whole lot of it. Women are constantly being body shamed in there work place and educational environment with dress codes. Don't get me wrong, dress codes are there to make things professional and most of the rules make sense on their own. The problem is the reason behind these rules. We make these rules having boys behaviours in mind. We think that because a girl is showing unconventional parts of her body, like her stomach, thighs, cleavage, and shoulders, she must be distracting that boy sitting beside her. I think that that is ridiculous and scandalous. Every educational and work environment should take a look back at the message they are providing us with. The message most boys get from this is that it is okay to
sexualize woman's body, and it is okay for them to act unsophisticated with us in these situations because it is our fault if we didn't cover up. It is us who bring this attention to ourselves. I think that this needs to change. The way our society think is very unhealthy. We live in a century where we blame girls for whatever happens to them, if the men's excuse is "the way she was dressed was provocative". This needs to stop. I Amelia Madden, am starting a feminism group at our St. Claire's College, to inform boys and girls about these things. I invite you all to join me in my campaign to spread awareness and maybe help some people see the injustice brought to girls.
Thank you all for listening!" Amelia smiled, happy of what she just had accomplished. Every student in the class where applauding loud and clear, girls, boys, and even Mrs. Brooks.
The bell rang, dismissing everyone from there current class for a 10 minutes break. Before Amelia was able to exit Mrs Brooks stopped her.
"Amelia that was a great, and inspiring speech you provided today! I am really proud of you hun."
She smiled, and thanked her teacher. It was a good way to start her day, she was happy, and knew well that this was just the start of a beautiful couple months.*******AUTHOR'S NOTE *******
