Authentic Spanish music played from speakers hung up in the four corners of the small restaurant set on a hill that over looked the sandy beaches. Jared and Ben talked to each other softly as Martin and I entered through the entrance of the restaurant and walked over to our managers.
I was still shaken up over last night and early this morning, but I have to put on my pretty face and forget everything until I have time to myself and figure it out on my own. Martin was quiet on the walk over here, but I could tell he was thinking to himself. Bitting his bottom lip and rubbing his thumb pad on his pointer finger roughly, signs that he's not feeling like himself.
"Rain, Martin, come here we need to talk," Ben said pointing to the seats across the table. "It's rather important." Jared seemed a little on edge as he picked at the paper placemat set on the table before him.
Taking a seat across from Jared, I watched as Martin stared over Ben's shoulder at the mirror hung on the wall for decoration. Martin looks distraught and lost every time I catch him staring at something or me, it is really upsetting me.
"You understand that the both of you were signed separately as a single act and not as a group," Ben started as Jared picked it up for him. "So Spinnin as come to us, since we are your managers, to show you a contract."
Contracts could mean I'm getting fired or Martin's get laid off, worse yet, we could both be kicked off the Spinnin' Records record label for good. Though, Ben did bring up that Martin and I have been working as an unsigned duo for a while.
"Just look it over," Ben and Jared pulled out their separate papers from their bags on the floor and slid them across the table in front of Martin and me. "And come to us for any questions or concerns."
Quickly skimming the paper, I spotted some words that sparked my interest. 'Partnership,' 'Three year contract,' and 'A headlining tour.' Could this be it? Could this be where I find myself, with Martin by my side, and enjoying my lifelong passion?
"This... This is incredible," I stuttered as I looked over at Martin who had his eyebrows knitted in confusion while looking down at the papers. "I mean it's an amazing offer. Who put it in?"
Ben and Jared became quite as Martin continued to flip through the papers. I wiped my fingertips over my closed eyelids as I kept asking myself over and over in my head if this was real or if I was dreaming again.
"Um, actually," Jared started as he looked over at Ben for confirmation as soon as I opened my eyes. "It's confidential as of right now. Though we can tell you that the executives of Spinnin' are all on board for the two of you to come together."
"We'll think about it." Martin finally spoke up as he looked up at his manager sitting across from him. I nodded my head in agreement and stood up to shake Jared's hand and leave.
I said my goodbyes to the two men as we left the quaint restaurant to head back to our hotels and talk the contract over with one another. Once again, Martin was silent on our walk, disturbingly silent. It was bothering me so much that he wasn't willing to talk to me.
After every time we fight, or Martin attacks me, he will start acting all friendly with me the next time and be more mature about everything, but he isn't being himself and I don't know what is going on with Martin. I don't want to say anything and trigger him, but then again, I'm really concerned for my friend.
"What's going on, Martin?" I asked as I slowed my pace to keep up and talk with him. He had his head turned to the cobblestone road as he slid a hand out of his pocket and into his hair. Martin looked up at me and gave me a stressed smile.
"What-what do you mean?" Martin asked as his head dropped back to the streets. A group of people rode past us on bicycles and left us will a cool breeze to wash over us along with silence.
"Are you okay? I'm concerned for you Martin," I asked finally bringing my slow and steady walking to a stop and making Martin stand in front of me with his back turned towards me. "You are my friend, I don't want anything to happen to you."
"It hurts," Martin whispered silently. "It hurts so much, Rainn." Water droplets fell from above and landed on my exposed shoulders as deep, dark clouds tumbled in from the Atlantic Ocean. Thunder rolled across the shoreline and echoed in the empty town as we were the only two standing here.
"Stop!" I yelled getting frustrated with him. "You are acting so childish, Martin! Just stop and explain yourself!" The thunder roared after I finished my sentence, helping me spill my emotions. Rain pelted my bare legs and arms harder as I saw Martin fall down to his knees.
"The pain needs to go, Rainn, and you are the only one to fix it! I need to be free, Rainn! Help me!" Martin cried out as he held his head in his hands. Clenching my hands at my side, I screamed above the sound of the storm as it sent another roll of thunder across the beachside town.
In the darkness of the clouds, I saw Martin looking at me over his shoulder as water streamed down his face. He was broken and it was my fault. He was hurting and I was the one hurting him. Martin was dead inside like how I was. Karma, she's quite the bitch, isn't she?

Was not really the direction I was going, but I think it works fine with how I want things to unfold.
