“Unngghh ...”
“Oh, at last you are awake …”
“Wait, where … am I?”
“You are at my house, young man …”
“Okay … WAIT A SECOND!”
Sayrel quickly wakes up from a bed made from hay and twigs. Because of that, he suddenly felt too much pain from his wounds. He now remembers what happened to him a while ago.
“We found you at the backyard. You were badly wounded, so we took you home”, an old man said.
“Backyard?” Sayrel asked. “I see. Last thing I remembered is I’m out of that forest. After that, it was all … dark …”
“I can see from here that you came from a great fall, other than your roll from that cliff. What’s your name, young man?” the old man asked.
“Sayrel … Sayrel McDaniel …”
“Ahh, such an odd name. I’m Chief Esteban. I am the head of this village, Feristeline.”
“Feri – what?” Sayrel asked in confusion.
“Feristeline. Fe-ris-te-li-ne”, Chief Esteban said slowly.
“Ahh, Feristeline. I get it.” Sayrel answered as he tries to get up.
“No, no, no, no. Don’t get up yet. You’re not yet all right”, Chief Esteban said to Sayrel as he stops Sayrel.
“But I need to get back to my ship …” Sayrel said.
“Ship?” Chief Esteban asked.
“Yeah, ship. Spacecraft. I need to get back on my ship so I can get back to orbit again.”
“You came from space?”
“Yeah. Technically speaking, yes. I came from space.”
Chief Esteban looked into nowhere, like he is in deep thought. He helped Sayrel get up and said “Follow me. We need to talk.”
Sayrel and Chief Esteban walked out of the house, and Sayrel gets amazed by what he saw outside.
Feristeline is a small village at the end of two forests. The village is composed of only 15 houses, including Chief Esteban’s. These houses are made of wood, twigs, and hay. Villagers are busy gathering fruits from trees nearby, and use them either by eating them or getting juice from them as a source of drink. You can feel the contentment in their laughs and the smiles on their faces.
“This village is Feristeline, Sayrel. This is where my people live … peacefully”, Chief Esteban said, followed by a frown.
“Why getting sad all of a sudden?” Sayrel asked.
“Nothing … Just nothing. Come, follow me. We’ll be meeting my wife.” Chief Esteban said, cheering himself up.
“Wife?” Sayrel asked himself as he follows Chief Esteban to a group of people gathering fruits in some trees.
There, an old woman stood in front of the group. She was probably the same age as Chief Esteban’s, wearing the same clothes as the other women are wearing. She was teaching the villagers what to do in separating the fruits they gathered.
“Ester … My lovely wife …” Chief Esteban shouted as he stretches his arms to approach his wife.
“Oh, my Dear … Why bother to come here? And who is this man you’re with?” Ester asked his husband while giving him a big hug.
“Ester, this is Sayrel. I found him in our backyard a while ago. Sayrel, this is my lovely wife, Ester.” Chief Esteban said as he introduces each other.
“Nice meeting you”, Sayrel politely says as he reaches his hand to give a hand shake.
“Oh, what a courteous man. Where did you come from?” Ester asked.
“From space …”
“Ester looked in the wilderness of the forest, just like what Chief Esteban did a while ago. She looked again to Sayrel after a moment.
“Maybe you should take him to Taranri, Esteban …” Ester said to his husband while looking to his eyes.
“Taranri? Hey, I really don’t know what’s going on here …” Sayrel asked.
“Taranri is the chief of the town next to us, Rivas. Maybe he’s the one who can heal your wounds much better than I did … and maybe answer the questions in your mind”, Chief Esteban explained to Sayrel.
“Good … Now, I’ll go there now”, Sayrel hurriedly said as he rushed to the forest.
“Wait, Sayrel. Do you know where Rivas is?” Chief Esteban asked.
Sayrel stopped for a moment, blankly looking ahead. He turned to Chief Esteban and said a long “No …”
“Well, I guess I might join you. Your wounds are not yet healed, you might faint on your … random expedition”, Chief Esteban said.
“Yeah, yeah. I guess that’s a good idea”, Sayrel agreed.
“Take care, my dear”, Ester said to his husband as she fixes his dress.
“Don’t worry, my dear. We will be alright”, Chief Esteban answered.
Sayrel and Chief Esteban now set foot to the forest ahead of them in order to reach Rivas, the Rock Forest.
