Steven pulled into the parking lot of the police station and parked the car close to the building. I unstrapped my seatbelt and went to the backseat to unstrap Cleo. When I noticed Steven helping with getting Caiden out, I quickly stopped him.

"You go in and see Emmie, I'll get them and come in," I said, noticing how eager he was to see Emmie after not seeing her for a week. Steven didn't hesitate to quickly blow me a kiss and he rushed up to the slightly large building.

Once I had Cleo on my hip, I opened the trunk and got out the double stroller, and carefully strapped Cleo in. Then, I went to the other side of the car where Caiden was asleep in his car seat. After a year, I had successfully learned how to get him unstrapped without disturbing his sleep, one thing Steven struggled with.

After locking the car and getting the twins situated, I made my way into the building, pushing the stroller along with me.

The inside of the police station was slightly different than I imagined. There was a desk in the far corner of the lobby with chairs lining the wall and a TV on one of the walls. The only people visible to me were Steven and the lady behind the desk.

I went and sat next to Steven in one of the chairs and took his shaking hand in mine. "It'll be okay, Emmie's okay." My lips kissed the back of his hand and then went to kid the side of his lips.

Then, a man came out of a door that lead further into the building. "Mr. Yeun, please follow with me." He gave us a small smile, probably trying to seem friendly.

We both stood up and I pushed the twins along with us. The man lead us down a long, wide, hallway that had many numbered doors. After walking past many doors, we were finally stopped at one. "She's in there.....but before you go in, you should know something." Steven and I gave confused looks to the man who then continued speaking. "She won't talk to anyone and won't tell anyone what happened. All we know is that a woman called 911 when she found her passed out in a shallow creek at the bottom of a large hill."

Once the man finished, he stepped out of the way so we could open the door. There Emmie was, sitting in a plastic chair with her bare feet just barely touching the ground and her head was hung low. The small room was empty besides her.

The man left us alone in the room and Steven quickly ran to Emmie, picking her up in his arms. He whispered a couple things in her ear that I couldn't make out before setting her down. I knelt down in front of Emmie and brought her in for a hug, feeling myself start to cry.

"Don't ever do that to me again, Emerson," I cried, holding her close and after a few moments she pulled away. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I yelled at you."

Emmie didn't reply and instead hugged me again.

I slowly stepped out of the shower and wrapped a fluffy white towel around myself. A gush of cold air hit me as soon as I made my way across the bathroom to the vanity where I brushed through my hair. I let out a sigh after looking at myself in the mirror, and I quickly turned to go into the bedroom.

While I made my way to the closet, I noticed that Steven wasn't in the room like he was when I went to shower.

I picked out a pair of shorts and pulled out one of Steven's t-shirts. His shirts were always so comfy and smelled perfect, just like him, so I wore them to bed sometimes.

As soon as I put on the clothes, I felt Steven's arms wrap around my waist from behind. "Hey, beautiful." His lips grazed my neck and I turned to face him, wrapping my arms around his neck.

"Hey handsome." He smiled and pecked my lips. "Is she alright?" I asked, referring to Emmie.

"She won't talk yet and has a fever, but she's safe at home now and knows we aren't fighting anymore," Steven answered, lacing our fingers together.

"Do you want me to talk to her?"

"Nah, she's in bed now. I think it's be best to wait until tomorrow," he replied and let go of my hands to start to undo the made bed. I went around to my side of the bed and helped him before crawling under the sheets and blankets.

As soon as Steven got in next to me, I scooted over to to lay in his arms. My head went to lay on his bare chest with his arm wrapped securely around me and our legs tangled together.

"I just hate seeing her like this," I mumbled, feeling Steven gently rub my arms. "She just looked so helpless and sad sitting in that police station with her scratched up, dirt covered face and her ripped shirt and her bare feet. I want to know what happened to our innocent little girl."

"Don't think about that right now, Laur," he started. "I want to know what happened too, but what matters is that she's safe with us now. We can't push her to talk though, we need to wait until she's ready to talk and we need to wait until she's ready to explain what happened."

"Yeah," I said.

I lifted my head from his chest and gently kissed it before letting Steven sit up. He reached out to turn off the lamp on his nightstand and I put my head on my pillow. "I love you, Lauren. I love you more than you'll ever know."

I couldn't help but smile as he leaned over me. I gently ran my fingers through the hair at the back of his head before pulling his lips onto mine. "I love you, too."

Then, we both just laid together, not being able to fall asleep when the door opened, letting in a bit of light from the hallway. Without a word, Emmie came to the foot of the bed and climbed up, crawling under the covers between Steven and I. Steven kissed her temple as she snuggled in close.

My poor Emmie.
