Dawn Thomas:
The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.
~
Dawn stretched out her arms and yawned loudly. She looked over to where Mia was; she rolled and sighed deeply in her sleep. Slowly, without trying to wake Mia up, she tiptoed out of their room and into the clean but deserted kitchen. Last night was simply a mess. As she pressed the milk carton to her lips, she thought about who could have made Tiffany so upset enough to make her disappear. Dawn shook her head in foolishness, Tiffany was obviously upset about the “Christian accident.” Maybe there was someone who reminded her of that day. Tiffany knew everyone of course. Taking a sip out of the milk carton she wondered how Mitchell was coping, Christian twin, Tiffany’s other brother. They were very close after all, like best-friends, and the four girls probably brought back some painfully happy and sad memories. Taking a sip out of the milk carton, she wondered how Mitchell was coping. Mitchell was Christian’s twin and Tiffany’s other brother. They were all popular, good looking and excellent scholars. What’s more is that they were extremely close; but Dawn couldn’t help but remember the slight coldness Mitchell had towards Tiffany after Christian died. Maybe she was reading in too much, maybe things have changed.“Someone’s in deep thought.” A voice brought her back into reality; her head quickly snapped to the entrance of the kitchen.
“Well, at least I actually think. Unlike some people...” She said coolly to Logan, leaning against the bench of the bench top.
“I do think. For example, will I be having cereal with milk today, or will you be drinking it all for yourself?” He smirked gesturing to the milk carton she held. Dawn ignored his comment.
“Don’t you have soccer practice or something?” she retorted. Logan walked to the fruit bowl that was on the bench next to Dawn and shrugged, “Nah, doubt it... Everyone’s probably hungover from the party last night.” He handed Dawn an apple while biting into his own, “Besides, the weather doesn’t look too good today.” They both looked out the window, it was raining and they saw their neighbour, James, struggling to get himself and his housemate’s washing inside.
It was easy to talk to Mia’s one-year-younger brother, it always had been. They used to all hang out regularly, but when you grow older you start to have different interests. Though she missed those times.“Logan?” Dawn asked.
“Hmm,” he replied without taking his eyes off of the window.
She continued, “Do you think we can all hang out tonight? Like Mia, you and I?” His eyes flew to hers in surprise, “Uh... I would but I’m going out with Kate tonight?” She sighed. Kate. How could she forget? After all, she was Logan’s girlfriend.
“Where you taking her this time? Maitteo’s?” Dawn muttered. Logan was just like his father; always taking his girls out to the fanciest of places. Mia and Dawn loved that he had inherited that gene, unlike most guys who would just rent a movie and expected you to be happy. However, it was Kate that put both Mia and Dawn off.
“Okay, you guys are just jealous that I spoil Kate!” he defended.
“No, we just think Kate’s an unworthy little—”
He cut her off, “She’s been my girlfriend for a little under a year now.”
“Hmm, seems like you guys sealed the deal,” Dawn laughed. She looked over to Logan who was blushing furiously, she stopped laughing.
“Oh my god, you’ve got to be kidding me. I seriously did not want to know that,” she stuttered.
He quickly placed his hand over her mouth and whispered into her ear, “No. We haven’t! Although, I think she wants to.”
