“Hello readers, I am Abhimanyu Raghuvanshi, a character created by the author. From now on, I will meet you every Wednesday and Sunday. Sometimes it may be Thursday, but I will definitely come with Anika.”
Abhimanyu Raghuvanshi POV,
Today is my birthday.
Morning se poora ghar loud hain wishes, decorations, teasing, everything. Normally birthdays never matter to me. I treat them like any other day. But aaj… aaj subah se ek ajeeb sa khali-khali feeling ho rahi hai.
Because Anika didn’t call.
Not even a message. Not even a “Happy Birthday, Mr. Husband.”
She left yesterday evening, saying she had some work at her home. I remember the way she packed her bag quickly, lightly, with that small smile on her lips that always calms me. But today that smile feels far away. And she hasn’t wished me yet.
I check my phone again.
Nothing.
I try not to overthink. Maybe she is busy. Maybe she slept late. Maybe her phone battery died. Maybe
“Bhaiyaaa!” Riya barges into my room without knocking. “Aww, bhaiya, dekho na, bhabhi ne abhi tak wish nahi kiya.”
She says it with drama, leaning against the door as if she caught me in some crime.
I roll my eyes. “Riya, she must be busy. Why are you making it a big deal?”
Riya giggles. “Busy? Subah 7 baje? Aur aap toh subah 6 baje se phone check kar rahe ho.”
I stop breathing for a second. “Riya,” I warn.
But she doesn’t stop. Of course she doesn’t. This is the problem with having a sister who loves chaos more than oxygen.
“Maa!” she screams loud enough to shake the house. “Look at him! Bhaiya is sad because bhabhi didn’t wish him!”
I glare at her. “Riya, stop this nonsense.”
Maa, Papa, Dadi Bua, and even Ritesh walk into my room like it’s some emergency meeting. And then I’m standing there like an idiot while everyone stares at me.
“What happened?” Maa asks.
Riya announces proudly, “Bhabhi didn’t wish him till now.”
Everyone turns to look at me, and I swear I can feel my ears getting hot.
“It’s nothing,” I say quickly. “Birthday is not important too much.” The words leave my mouth awkwardly, like I’m trying too hard.
Everyone goes silent. Then
They all burst into laughter.
Maa wipes her tears. “Haye, kitna jhooth bol raha hai!”
