It was near that time of year again, the time when we gathered for the raffle of the games. I sat up in my bed, moaning "Oh, the reaping is today", then I turned my head to see my older brother, Shane.
"It's not that bad", Shane said to me, "I've been through this six times, wasn't picked once, this is your first time, you won't get picked".
I rolled my eyes as I turned away, I wasn't in the mood to argue. "You know you still have this year to go, you're not off the hook just yet".
Shane sighed, "yeah, I know", he said, shoving his just peeled banana into his mouth.
I stood up and walked to my room and opened my dresser, "Where something nice for the reaping", my mother said, scaring me almost right out of my pants,
"God dang it mom", I shouted, "Quit doing that".
My mother smiled, then walked into the kitchen. "Ah", I exclaimed, "This will do". I pulled out a long dark blue dress with a lacey bow around the waist. I quickly stripped out of my clothes and slipped into the dress, and pulled on some nice dress shoes. "Beautiful", Shane complimented.
"Thank you", I said looking at his outfit with a questioning look.
"Don't worry", he suggested, "I'm not wearing this.
After Shane got dressed, we headed for Town Square. Shane looked at me when we entered town square, then he said "May the odds be ever in your favor".
I walked over to the booths and got my finger pricked "ow", I said under my breath
