(Athena's POV)
It's been about a week since the bonfire and I have been working on my homework. This weekend my family is going on a hunting trip out in the cold air. Today, I am packing up my camping gear. It had started to snow earlier in the week and today is Friday, so it's been like a blizzard out since the beginning. Wondering now if I could stay home and work on my homework instead. I walk downstairs to find my parents packing up food for the trip.
"Dad, do you think I could stay home and work on homework?" I ask, giving him puppy dog eyes which he smiled at.
"Yes, that's fine. But are you sure you really want to stay? We are going to have so much fun out in the blizzard"
I nod, "Yeah, I have to write two essays by this weekend to turn in on Monday."
That's when my mom interrupted, "But honey, I don't want you to be home alone. What if something happens? You won't be able to contact us because we won't have service"
I looked over at her, giving her a smile. "I will be fine. I promise." I said, reassuring her. I grab a glass of water and head back upstairs. Going into my room, I hear my cell phone go off like crazy. Sitting back down at my desk and seeing an unknown number pop on the screen.
"Hey, it's Damon. I sort of got your number from your friend Courtney. I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out. I also want to apologize for what happened at the bonfire." The text read.
I hesitated to answer back. "Hey... I don't know if I can hang out. My family is leaving for a hunting trip. I will be home alone, so they probably don't want to leave." I sent back. Flipping my phone over as I went back to my homework. Writing the outline for the essays by the time my family left. Hearing the truck start, and them saying goodbye.
I have dinner and head to bed early. Falling asleep to my music. In the morning and I wake up to my room being really cold, wondering if the heat had been turned on at all last night. Seeing my breath in the air as I climb out of bed. Going to my closet, and changing into a heavy sweatshirt and fuzzy, long yoga pants. I grab my phone and walk downstairs. Realizing the power was out and I knew that wasn't a good sign. I try to call my parents, but realize what my mom had said when she left, no service for them. I also didn't know how to turn on the back up power. Huffing, I grab a granola bar. Eating it as I go back upstairs. I grab my comforter and wrap it around myself as I try to finish my homework.
By lunchtime, it became colder and colder. My teeth were chattering and I was shaking from the cold. I sneeze and continue to work on my essays. Knowing I should get help from someone in town, but not knowing who until I saw a text from Damon. Should I call him? Shaking my head and walking into my closet. Putting more layers on, and going downstairs. I walk outside to go check up on the horses and make sure they were doing alright in the cold.
Walking through the snow and slamming the barn door open against the snowy cold wind. Feeling heat rush on me and I sighed. I made sure all the horses we alright and were feed. Water, on the other hand, was going to be difficult to get. I grab an empty bucket and head outside. Scooping up some snow and dumping it out into their water containers. Hopefully, the water will melt the snow soon for them to drink or munch on.
Finishing up and heading back inside. The power was still off in the house and it was getting darker. Wondering what I was going to do for the night. When I heard my phone go off and it was Courtney. "Hey, just wondering if you're doing okay?"
That's when I decide to call her. I explain to her that what was happening and she said she was going to send someone over to help me. I thanked her and hung up. Going back upstairs to finish my homework because that is what I could only do. When I heard a car coming down the drive, the tires crunching against the snow and bright headlights shown against the walls. It was a huge black truck, and it parked outside my house. Pulling my comforter off and heading downstairs to the door. I open it and see Blake and Courtney jump out. "Hey, I heard you need some help!" Blake yelled to me, waving his hand.
