Mavis looked at the object in her hands and felt a shiver up her spine.

"Aw shit."

The world had to be playing a cruel trick at her she thought as the pink two lines laughed at her displaying that she was indeed pregnant. She knew what she was going to do of course all her life she had a plan accordingly to the situation and this was not going to be the exception. She was close to finishing her time at college and would soon be receiving both her art degree and her business degree. After that she would move to the house her nana left her when she passed away. The house was far away from where her family lived that they wouldn't visit even though she knew they wouldn't either way. By that time she wouldn't be showing and no questions should be asked. She would keep the baby and love it with all her heart because that is what a child deserved.

"I'm going to be a mother."

Umm there is just one problem, said my conscience, what about the father?

Forget the dad she told herself he doesn't deserve this baby. He will only mess it up. Before I get ahead of myself any more I need to go to a doctor to confirm that this is really happening.

The next day I awoke with nervous butterflies all around my stomach of course after puking my guts out in the toilet if that didn't confirm it I don't know what would. I got ready with my comfiest clothes I had and prepared for battle. As I drove to the doctor I couldn't help but look around the streets and wonder what kind of life my child would have if we stayed in the states. Would he run around as the rests of the kids at the park or will he be trapped to be kept a secret because I fear his father will show up out of nowhere or worst because I too am a secret well hidden? If I turn out to be pregnant I am definitely moving to Spain into the lovely beach house that was my home in the summers when nana and I would eat the world whole. Arriving at the office was terrifying even more so than actual holding the test that said that I was indeed pregnant. I knew that the instant I stepped into the building my whole life would change and well the big positive sign yet again laughed at me while I bought my ticket to leave to Spain in a month. By then I would be three months pregnant and staying longer would be too tricky as the woman in my family always seem to pop a belly at the exact 3 ½ month mark.

As a child when I dreamed of this moment it was always with my mother beside me telling me that "everything is going to be okay sugarplum," yet she wasn't here or rather hadn't been since she died when I was eight. Consequently that was the year that I started living with my dad and his wife who did everything they could to hide who I was. From private tutors to grounding me when my siblings had people over. "So baby it seems you're going to have to learn Spanish ......how about it? Cres que puedas?"
