Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Nina Simon, Jill Scott, and others.
These women have taught me inner peace. That that the world that I lived in since a baby, called LaLa land, is finally over. That childish ways will not make it into a world we as African Americans and myself as a black female teen, call The Struggle. The struggle of not being safe walking home at night. Being taken back to the world before my time of hate and ignorance. Being arrested and killed for the color of my skin. Of being scared to even walk outside of the doors of your home, at risk you might not come back. Today's world is filled with stereotypical people filled with the ignorance that they were victimized to by their own. But how my idols taught me inner peace, you might ask. They teach strength, independence, beauty, and love. The strength that when you have been beaten down by this world, that only you have the strength to get back up. To keep fighting for what you believe in. The independence of that you don't need nobody to tell you what you need nor want in any situation. That you are mature enough to take care of yourself. The beauty that it don't matter what you look like or who you are, that we are all made in God's image and in certain situations, even the ugliest thing, could produce something beautiful. And love that is real and true. Not that phony and wannabe love that you can risk your heart for break. But that love that builds you up after hurt and pain, but most importantly, supports you and that is there for you hundred percent. For me, scratch relationship goals and add in life goals. My inner peace, understanding myself and understanding the world that I live in, and waiting patiently for the one to support me or for me to support for we can make a difference. My message for y'all is to never forget that God is always on our side and there for us when we need him the most. To be safe out there in this world cause, we never know what can happen. One minute your driving home, the next your pulled over, arrested and then shortly after killed. RIP Sandra Bland and the others. But most importantly, to understand what is going on and to don't ever forget the ones that were sacrificed to try to make this world a better place and filled with equality for all races and people. God bless y'all and have be safe out here.
