Hey guys :) this is a narrative I wrote for my english assignment. We had to write a story on one or more of the themes from Romeo and Juliet and my story is like a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. Enjoy :)

Prologue
It was exactly today but 30 years ago when I met my Juliet. I was a Montague and she was a beautiful Capulet. My 20th birthday, the one I never wanted to forget. The day our eyes met and my heart came to life was the day that changed my life.

“To James! Happy Birthday son.” My dad declared as he embraced me tightly.
The large room of people cheered and whistled.
“I’m very proud of you.” Dad gave me a reassuring smile.
He walked off the stage and I followed, landing into the sea of people that surrounded it.
“The Andersons are here.” I overheard my cousin Tress telling my dad.
“As long as they don’t cause trouble they’re welcome to stay.” Dad spoke calmly.
My 20th birthday was an open party. Anyone of high class with a known name could come in.
Suddenly the lights turned off and my favourite song started playing as a disco ball descended from the ceiling. A dim light lit the room and everybody moved towards the dance floor. I took the opportunity to grab a drink from the now empty bar.
“Give me a glass of the finest champagne you have.” I winked at the female bartender.
“Sure and happy birthday.” She flirted back as she handed me my glass.
I smirked back at her before taking a sip of the refreshing champagne.
“Juice please.” A sweet innocent voice said from my left.
I turned my head to investigate, only to see the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Immediately I reached out my hand and said, “Hi, my name’s James Stewart and you are?”
“Alice Anderson.” She shook my hand lightly.
Her hand felt as light as a feather. Her face was porcelain white and her lips were blood red. She was beautiful.
“Happy birthday.” She smiled at me before receiving her drink from the counter.
I was hit with cupid’s arrow. I became a victim of love. The innocence and purity in her eyes made me feel dirty, hideous and evil.
“So you’re Robert Anderson’s daughter?” I wanted to clarify how someone so beautiful could come from someone like Mr Anderson.
A small smile appeared on her face as she replied, “Yes I am.”
“I don’t think that’s much to be proud of.” I spoke to myself but the way her face changed told me she overheard.
“I’m proud of who I am and I don’t care what anyone thinks.” She tried to stand firm and use an assertive tone but I could tell she wasn’t used to standing up for herself.
She turned and walked out the front doors of the function room. I followed her out of amusement. She looked lost so she settled for a dim lit room in the next corridor to escape to.
I walked in behind her without her realising.
“I don’t usually apologise so don’t expect to hear me ever say this again but I’m sorry.” I tried to sound sincere.
