Storms. Carlos's worst nightmare. The hard rain pounding against the roof. The loud thunder that rings in his head for hours. The lightening that flashes and shines threw the window. He hates it all.
Unfortunately, tonight there was a storm and a loud one. Jay could barely fall asleep and he loves storms. But there's also another reason he's still awake.
The whimpers of his best friend. The cries and heavy breathing. No one could sleep hearing someone they care about in distress. Jay decides he has to do something.
Jay tiredly gets out of his bed and heads over to Carlos. The poor boy had the covers over his head and was in a ball.
Jay slowly walks over and puts a comforting hand on Carlos's shoulder. "You ok, Bud?"
At the sound of his voice and the touch in his shoulder Carlos jumps up in surprise. He hadn't heard the older boy coming over.
"Ye-e-ah I'm f-fine. Just not t-that tired. Yeah. It's fine y-y-y-you can can go back to s-sleep." The scared boy stammers out making Jay not believe him one bit. So to help his friend Jay hops into Carlos's bed.
Grabbing the smaller boy easily and lifting him onto his lap. Jay wraps his arms around Carlos tightly and comfortingly.
"What's really wrong?"
Carlos sighs wrapping his arms around Jays neck. "I'm scared of storms."
As if on cue a loud rumble of thunder strikes. Carlos jumps and cowers into Jay at the sound, letting out another whimper.
Jays heart sinks at the sight of Carlos in this state. He admits he like Carlos a lot but he's not sure if he feels the same way.
"C'mon I'll lay with you." Jay whispers into Carlos's ear making him shiver but nod.
Not letting go Jay slowly lays down with Carlos curled into him. They lay there for a while Jay stroking Carlos's hair while he calms down.
"Thank you, Jay." Carlos mutters his eyes half closed. "Anytime."
