Just another day of my life, which - if I may add- is boring as hell! Working the night shift at a small diner isn't exactly my dream job, but since I dropped out of high school, I don't exactly have the liberty of choosing my dream job. After dropping out, I got kicked out of my foster home and was put in the care of my best friend, Leah. Ive been living with her for about 3 years now. We finished high school together, but since we weren't exactly the sharpest pitchforks in the barn we didn't get scholarships, and since we didn't have money, we never went to college. Which leads to where I am now. In one of the shabbiest little apartment homes in the whole state of Missouri.
My best friend, Lilah, is probably the awesomest person I have ever met. I've grown accustomed to being left alone, but not once did she walk out on me. She was your average American girl searching for her place in this shit excuse for a world. She had blonde hair which was curly and fell to her shoulders. Along with her mesmerizing curls came her piercing blue eyes and a body built for a model. But even though she had the looks and I loved her, I couldn't help but hate her for forcing me to apply for this job.
I grunted at the sun peeking through the window and smacked a pillow to my face. I seriously didn't wanna apply for the stupid job today. Who in their right mind applies for a job at a record store? Or a better question, who in their right mind even buys records nowadays? Whatever, I need the money. I gently picked up, Smitty, our cat, and placed her on the cold hardwood floor - which my feet cringed at. "Ames! Bacons ready if you wanna eat before that interview!" Lilah called from the kitchen. "I'm too lazy! Just gonna get ready and head out!" I called back. There was no response so I made my way to the restroom to prepare myself for this god awful day.
I decided on grey toms, a grey high waisted skirt, and a nudish colored pink long sleeve - which I tucked in. Afterwards I let my long, wavy, and dark colored hair flow down my back. I wasn't a make up kinda girl so I left the house as I was. I grabbed my bike - yes bike gotta problem with it? - and headed straight to the record store.
As I arrived, I decided to stop at The Bean, since it was right across the street. I ordered my coffee and took a long chug. Everyone needs coffee in the morning, I just happen to have about 3 cups a day. After I downed all of it I took out a cigarette and quickly lit it, seeing as how I was supposed to be at my job interview I crossed the street, careful to look both ways, when an old mustangs screeching tires stopped just inches in front of me. "What the fuck!? Don't you see the stop sign!?" I screamed. "What the hell?! Don't you see the green light!?" The driver retorted. I scoffed and walked over to the small store labeled as Ricky's Records to catch my breath.
I leaned against the window of 'Ricky's Records' and took a long drag. After a few drags I flicked it to the ground, squished it with my foot a bit and then placed my bike against the wall before walking in. I didnt wanna have another run in with the ass who almost killed me so I just brought my bike in to avoid anyone noticing me. I walked in to find an old man who looked to be in his 50s? Maybe 60s? He had a scraggly beard and Lennon glasses. His hair was even more wiry and maybe longer than mine. He looked like the cliched version of an old man during the 70's.
"Hey! You must be... Um... Amber?" He guessed. "Amy." I corrected and stuck my hand out with a smile. "Cool! I'm Richard but they call me Ricky!" He said shaking my hand. I smiled and as he stood up I took in what he was wearing. Baggy jeans, a loose shirt with a peace sign on it, and some necklaces. As for shoes- he wore none. "I take it you want the job eh?" He inferred. I turned my attention to his face and nodded. "Cool you've got it! First shift starts tomorrow morning at 10!" His mellow voice said. Wow. That was easy. And my first shift was at 10? Maybe I could grow to love this job. And judging by the customer that had just walked in, my thoughts were rendered incorrect. "Hey Uncle Ri- oh, she's here." He pointed out.
Under the lighting I got a better look at his face. He looked like a little boy but all his tattoos let you know that he wasn't. His hair was messy and a light brown. His eyes were brown and he was short. Very short- compared to Lilah anyway.. "Nice to see you too dip shit." I retorted. He scoffed and leant over the counter to my boss. "Is SHE your new worker?" He asked impolitely. Oh shit. Did he have a person relationship with the owner? I had gotten my job and in less than 5 minutes I was gonna lose it.
Ricky nodded and then added, "and before you ask, no, I will not fire her just because you don't like her." I smirked to myself and he stuck his tongue out at me like a five year old. "Newbie this is Christopher, my nephew. Christopher this is Newbie, our newest addition." He stated. "Our?" Christopher asked. "Ricky it's just you in this old place." He said kicking one of the empty boxes. "Don't rub it in that I'm gonna die alone." Ricky said. I suddenly felt bad for him. But I knew soon, with help from Lilah, we'd get him a date. "Don't worry old man, trust me, you'll find the one." I winked. He smiled and then went to the back and brought back a key. "You open tomorrow, I got some business to take care of. Open at whatever time you want, ill be out all day." Ricky said handing me the key. I simply nodded and walked over to my bike. "Well I gotta get going, ill see you soon Ricky! And bye what'syourface." I said coldly before walking out the door.
Christopher's POV
-flashback-
Earlier in the morning
I awoke to the sound of my shit phone ringing and I turned to face the clock. "9 am?!" I grunted grabbing the phone. "What?" I hissed. "I need your help this morning." My uncles voice rang through the phone. "I thought you were hiring someone today?" I asked sitting up. "Yea but they won't start until tomorrow. Now please?" Wow. He actually sounded formal. "Dude?" Yea, never mind. I sighed an 'okay' and grabbed my car keys.
I walked to my driveway where my 65' mustang awaited me. It was a piece of junk but I loved the vintage look. As I made my way to my uncle's old shop a girl made me screech to a stop in the middle of the road. "What the fuck-" I didn't get a chance to hear what she said because I got a text from my uncle to arrive soon. I gave the chick a sarcastic comment before speeding off behind the building.
I walked through the front door where I was greeted by the small jingle of bells. "Hey Uncle Ri- oh she's here." I muttered glaring at the girl who had almost gotten herself killed. She was short, about as tall as me and pretty skinny. Her complexion was glowing and her hair was a darker shade of brown. Nothing about her caught my attention more than her hazel ass eyes. They were the most fucking gorgeous thing ever. Despite all her mesmerising features, I still didn't like her.
-present-
What was her deal? Despite the fact that I almost killed her. And that I was sort of being a dip shit. I sighed and looked over to my uncle Ricky. He gave me a nod and I walked over to the door. "HAZEL EYES!" I called after her.
