Chapter 1; Shannon's Story From The Past: Carley's POV: Shannon is my friend. She is a special girl. I first met her in pre-school. We were best friends by the first day. At least till the 4th grade. Everything changed. She went camping in the woods. I didn't go because I was at national gymnastics meet. There was a forest fire. She fell. Her legs burned up. When she was in the hospital she had two choices. A. She could get her legs removed from the knee down. B. She would be in a wheelchair. She went with choice A. She was very nervous for the surgery on her legs. She told me that the medicine to make her fall asleep kept wearing off so she was in a lot of pain during the surgery. When I first saw her after the surgery it was like a whole new her. For the first few months she couldn't walk or run. Then she got her strength back. She was able to walk again. But being able to walk wasn't all that great..

She became alone and abandoned. She wasn't allowed back on the track basketball or volleyball teams because she had no legs and they thought she would make them lose at competitions. All her friends including me ditched her. I felt bad but I didn't care. She always sat in the front of the classroom so she could ignore everyone. Shannon couldn't participate in any physical activity including recess. I felt kind of bad. All day long, all she does is sit there. Since I dumped Shannon my reputation has changed. I used to be a geek and a dork. Now I'm One of the average kids. Geeks and dorks are all now homework at school and only go to parties once a year. *Kids go to parties all year /at our school at least. When I was always wondering should I go back to Shannon or stay where I am an average kid. Are me and Shannon still friends. Well I'll find out tonight.
