Society was like a government, people follow mindless trends like zombies, listened to teachers like robots and did jobs like people with no souls. Our guild always opposed society. We believed we can be ourselves, yet we were taken out one by one. Kotoko chan was the first.
At our secret base, we were planning on what to do for vacation. It was the winter break and school was finally there. Yes, although we sound like warriors we're still stuck in school which sucks.
Through the school year, Kotoko chan hung out with this guy named Vect. They were really close, at some point Kotoko wanted him to join. He acted like a popular kid in school, but I never really knew because we were in different grade. Kotoko chan would tell me all those times she shared with him.
They were close friends; they would defend each other when bullied. They would talk on the phone for hours. They were like a close couple, but not that close. Vect had this girlfriend who he dated over and over again. She dated and dumped him so many times, that he can't stop thinking about her. Of course Kotoko wanted him to be happy, but she hated her. Talking Vect made her happy, but after awhile Vect stopped talking to her. Avoiding her. After awhile we lost contact with Kotoko. So this winter vacation we were all searching for her.
The first day of winter break, Maya and I decided to visit her. It was snowy and we barely could see a thing. The snow went up to our shins. The snow was cruel but beautiful as the snowflakes danced its way towards the surface. We knocked on her door, her mother answered.
"Excuse me ma'am," I said shivering "Is Kotoko chan there?"
"No, she's with Victor at the park" she said calmly
I felt panicked for some reason and ran towards the park.
"Wait up!" Maya yelled
We were too late.....
There she was bowing her head. She confessed to him. She just stood as he looked down. He was about to say something to her until his girlfriend came out of nowhere and walked up to her. We couldn't hear what she said but she got into an argument with Kotoko, I was about to jump but Maya stopped me.
"Wait" she said gritting her teeth "Kotoko will get mad if she knows we're here"
I watched as the argument got physical, Vect's stupid girlfriend started punching her. That was it. I couldn't stand anymore; I ran and pushed Kotoko out of the way before she could kick her. Maya was yelling at Vect.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Maya screamed, I barely seen her this mad before "You're just going to stand here while your stupid girlfriend beats up someone?"
I walked towards Maya to stop her. I went to get Kotoko from the bench where I left her, but she wasn't there... just a bunch of footprints. I followed the footprints towards a highway and there was Kotoko, being dragged by her hair. I ran towards them but it was too late. She threw Kotoko into the highway. I kept running hoping to reach her. As I heard the sound of bones cracking, my heart sank. There she was, on the street. I picked her up from the pool of blood. Maya appeared, dragging Vect. Maya called 911. I grabbed Vect's stupid girlfriend by the collar.
"What the f*ck is wrong with you?!" I yell as tears stream through my eyes.
"She deserves it" She smiles
Without thinking, I started punching her face. The ambulances' wailed on as my knuckles turned bloody and broken. I dropped her stupid body and carried Kotoko to the ambulance.
At the hospital, Maya and I sat at her side. Her body was bruised and bloody, I barely could recognize her. The nurse told us to come back in 2 months.
2 months later
Maya and I opened the door to her room, she was more recognizable. She stared straight without acknowledging us. She had a note in her hand.
Can we just be friends? ~Vect
Kotoko stared blankly and with no emotion, she looked broken. Far from crying, but the silence already screamed her pain. Friend or no friend, he left her to die at the hands of his (ex?) girlfriend. If anyone is going to die, he's going to be it. As our guild was to protect our way of living in this stupid world, he destroyed it. Things will never be the same.
In the class, I snuck cyanide into his ben-to that his girlfriend made. After school, I went to Kotoko's room, but she wasn't here.
"She's at the rooftop" the nurse said
I went up using the elevator and opened the door
There she was, on the ledge.
I ran towards her reaching to pull her from the ledge
"No!" I yelled
Without turning around, she fell. After a few seconds, I heard the cracking of bones and nurses screaming. I just sat there and wept. I hated it, she's gone. One of my friends. Life was cruel...but this was the beginning.
