Dorian's P.O.V.

Today was my birthday and I couldn't help but be excited because my best-friend, who just so happened to be my next-door neighbour, was coming round. She goes by the name of Rebecca Day and from a young age we'd always been close. One of the many reasons why she's my best-friend is because she is my anchor, she stops me drifting away, she keeps me sane. The reason why is because I'm a werewolf and an Alpha one at that. The Alpha title will only be passed down, from my dad, when I'm much older as I am only fourteen today.

I could easily remember my first ever shift as though it had only happened yesterday. The first time I turned into a werewolf was when I was just nine years old. Whilst it was a scary and strange experience, I remember smelling strawberries and chocolate. My father encouraged me to follow the scent to see where it led, to see who my mate was. My mate was who I could smell straight away in my wolf form. After help from my father, I shifted back to human form. I could still smell the strawberries and chocolate, it lead me only next door. Rebecca's house. Rebecca! She was my mate. I remember going home and asking my dad to explain, the surprise running through my veins as he explained that she too is a werewolf but because she was female, her shift wouldn't be until she was eighteen. To be mates, I'd have to wait for her to come of age, and she was two years younger than me!

"Can we talk?" I suddenly heard my father knock at my bedroom door, then come in. "What's the matter?" I replied, turning around to face him. "Rebecca's twelve now-""And?" I butted in. He held up a hand to silence me. "Your urge to mark her as your mate will only get stronger, especially with you both living next to each other. And you know that if you mark her early, it'll kill you both," he continued. "I'm not going to mark her dad!" I said, "For that reason I'm going to have to send you away, for your safety and hers" he finished.

I knew this was coming but it still crushed me that I had to leave Rebecca but I didn't protest, it was after all for her safety. "I'm sorry son but it's the only way to keep you safe," dad said, "I understand dad, I truly do, can we go to my party now, so I can see Rebecca?" I replied. A small smile crossed his face and he nodded. "Come on son," he said, leaving the room and I quickly followed after him.

Rebecca was the first thing I saw, standing next to my small pile of presents, smiling wildly at me. I grinned back and went over to the presents, I tore open the paper, looked at the gift and showed my gratefulness and thanked whoever bought me it. I finished and noticed that there was no present from Rebecca. She coughed and I looked at her, "Happy birthday," she said and handed over a black velvet jewellery box. I slowly opened it and inside nestled in the fabric was a dog tag. I gently pulled it out and saw a picture of us on it. Me when I was ten and Rebecca when she was eight. I turned it around and engraved on the back was, Dorian and Rebecca, together forever, I couldn't help but smile and pull her into a bone crushing hug. Her strawberry and chocolate scent invading my own senses.
And then I felt the urge to mark her. And I know what my dad meant. I would have to leave. I have to go to live with my brother David.

The party went well and at the end, Rebecca's mother came over. She was carrying one of her daughter's shirts, one that happened to be my favourite on Rebecca. She pushed it into my hands and began to speak, "It's so you always have Rebecca with you, wherever you go," she said, I mutely nodded and went over to Rebecca. I had to tell her goodbye. I made a pact with her that her scent would always bring me back to her. I gently kissed her cheek, "see you again," I whispered into her ear, I gave her one final hug before she left. I watched her leave, I love her and felt the urge to refuse to leave. But I had to, I have to protect her from myself.

I looked towards the last picture we had where we were both together, Dorian and I. Tomorrow is going to be my 18th birthday and whilst I was ecstatic to finally turn 18, I couldn't help but wish that Dorian could be here. But Dorian wouldn't come, he had to leave six years ago when I was twelve and when he was fourteen. He's twenty now, but the distance between us hadn't stopped us from being best friends. He's called me every day and I'm not surprised if he ran his phone bill sky high, we talked for hours on end until he said "see you again," then hang up. He rang me only a few hours ago and told me that he loved me and said the familiar words of "see you again," I missed him so much but one day I'd see him again. See you again, there was song that just been released with the same words as its title. It's performed by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, in tribute to Paul Walker who died, whilst Fast and Furious 7 was being filmed. I loved the song and I'd already asked my mum to play it at my party tomorrow, which she agreed to. Also tomorrow my parents were finally going to explain about our true heritage, turns out I'm a werewolf but I'm unable to shift until I finally turn eighteen. Excited? Yes, Nervous? Yes but scared? No. Turns out on my first shift I'll discover who my mate is, as long as it wasn't Julian from down the road I think I'll be alright. We'd tried to date but I couldn't help but compare him to Dorian. Dorian, was the one who I wanted to be my mate, the person who I hadn't seen in six years. But I knew, I knew I love him. I glanced towards the scar on the palm of my hand, his promise to me that's he'd come back. When was what I didn't know?

I stretched as I got out the car, it was just past midnight but I was finally home. I looked at Rebecca's house but the lights were all switched off. She was finally eighteen, and I couldn't wait to see her at her party. She had no idea I was home, my birthday present for her. My dad had sent me pictures of Rebecca over the years so at least I'll recognise her, as if I couldn't, she was my mate. Even if her looks had of changed drastically my werewolf instincts would have quite easily pointed her out. She doesn't know what I look like though. I hope she doesn't think I'm a stranger or something. My blond hair was dyed black and much longer that it lands down in my eyes, eyes which were lined in black pencil. My music taste had changed to bands such as My Chemical Romance and bring me the Horizon, and Black Veil Brides. I suppose I had to thank my brother David for that. David and his pack was who I had been living with, they'd been training me to be a good Alpha for my own pack.
But now I couldn't wait to see Rebecca again, I was so tempted to go knock on her door now. She was beautiful if the pictures were anything to go by, I just hoped that she wouldn't reject me. I had changed since she last saw me.
