Man was I surprised, I thought to myself as we headed back to the main chamber of the temple. I thought that the summoners were all old geezers. There were people inside the temple congratulating the new summoner.
We walked out of the temple and into the center of the village. Wakka nudged me telling me that this would be an experience that I would never forget. He called out to the summoner asking if she was ready. My curiosity started to grow.
She stood within the very center of the circle with a stave at her side. She started swinging it around in a circle and lights started to glow around her. The cloudy sky cleared instantly and a flying creature flew from the heavens and down to the summoner. It was bird like with powerful wings and legs. Its feathers shown bright and as strange as this sounds, I felt a strange kind of gentleness coming from it.
The day became night. The celebrations lasted all day. I wanted to talk to the summoner, but never had a chance too. It was starting to get late and I was starting to lose interest when Wakka grabbed me.
“Let me introduce you to the team,” he swung me around and I was facing the rest of the blitzplayers, “this guy here wants into the tournament so bad, I let him on the team,” he was telling his team. “His memory’s a little fuzzy, so don’t mind him if he says anything odd, come on, say hi.”
I stepped out to face them and shrugged a little bit, “Uh, hi guys,” I waved awkwardly.
They all greeted me with mumbles.
“So what’s our goal?” I asked them.
“To do our best!” the Aurochs said.
“Nope, we got a new goal now, our new goal, is victory!” Wakka fist pumped. “To win every match, defeat every opposing team! To bring the Crystal Cup back to our island! That’s all we need to do to win. Easy, ya?” Wakka was getting himself excited.
The Aurochs started to try it out. The mumbled the word victory a few times. Soon they grew louder with intensity, and then they started shouting the word. Chanting it. Wakka along with them. Their spirits rose, and their moral did as well.
The summoner glanced over at the commotion and we held eye contact. She smiled and I blushed slightly. I was going to give this one last chance. If I couldn’t talk to her tonight, I would never be able to talk to her in the future. I thought that at least.
I walked over to her and was shunned by the people she was sitting with. They called me a heathen, telling me to stay away from her. The summoner rose to her feet and the elderly people looked worried. She smiled sweetly and turned to face me. She walked over to me slowly so the people behind her didn’t get up. They were watching closely.
“I’m Yuna,” She said to me, “Thank you so much for your help earlier.” She smiled a sweet smile. The moonlight was shining off of her pale skin. She looked wonderful.
“I’m sorry about that,” I was starting to get nervous, “Wasn’t that? Wasn’t I not supposed to…. Guess I… kind of overreacted.”
“Oh, no. I was… overconfident,” she looked me in the eyes. I had to compliment her. Come on think.
“Um, I saw that aeon thing. That’s amazing,” I smiled. Was that the best that I could do?
“Really?” she smiled broadly and it looked like she was about to soar, “Do you think I can become high summoner?”
A kid came running up to Yuna, she started pulling at her sleeve to get her to come play. Yuna nodded and turned to me.
“So, tomorrow then.”
