"But mom," Jacob whined, stressing the last "m".
"No, Jacob. Stop whining. You are going to school Monday. Your father just lost his job and that means I'm going to have to start working full time at the hospital. I don't have time to homeschool you."
We were sitting at the breakfast table. It was a Saturday morning and two days earlier my dad had lost his job. My mom used to work the night shift at our only hospital downtown, but now she's going to start working full time. That meant that she couldn't homeschool us anymore. Jacob was being a total pain about all of it, but I was ecstatic.
I was going to get to go spend my junior year with Tom.
"It's already October Mom! I'm not going to know anyone in the entire sixth grade!" Jacob said, "Heck, I don't know anyone anyway."
"Enough," My mother said, "You are going and that's final. Now go on now, find a book-bag."
My brother gave a dramatic sigh and stood up from where he had been sitting and grabbed his plate bringing it into the kitchen. I followed him.
"Stupid, stupid." Jacob muttered.
"What's your problem?" I asked.
"Oh nothing, just the fact that I literally have no friends."
"Oh shut up, you have Anthony, Sam, and John."
"They're in 7th grade!"
"So."
"Soooooo, I'm in 6th grade idiot."
He slammed his plate downing the sink and ran upstairs.
I rolled my eyes, set my plate on top of Jacob's then walked up the stairs to my room. I quietly closed the door behind me and walked  to my mirror above my small wooden dresser. I looked and examined myself.
I had long, straight, Carmel colored hair. My eyes were a bright green. I was fairly fit. because I went running often with my best friend Andrea. I was also around 5'8 in height. I pulled my hair in a high ponytail and started to think about school.
Of course, I had Andrea and Tom, but I didn't know many other people. I did know Daniel, Zeke, Catherine, and Maddie, so I guess I can hang out with them.
Then I started thinking about Tom. The last time I saw him was Wednesday, and today was Saturday. I guessed I could go visit him at the motel, if he was still there.
Then my phone buzzed, breaking my thoughts. I walked over to my nightstand and flipped it open. I had received a text from Andrea. It read:
Hey! My mom told me you were going back to actual school!! Anyways, there's a free concert out in East Bay Park tonight. A lot of Juniors are going to be there, so you should come. I'm not sure who's playing, but, it'll be great!
I replied telling her that it sounded awesome then asked if Tom was going, even though he probably was. Andrea and him were close friends too, she invited him to everything.
Tom didn't have a phone, well he did, but it had been swallowed in beer while ago. I'm planning on buying him one for Christmas.
I set my phone down and take one last look at myself in the mirror. Then heard my phone buzz again and put on my shoes and set out to find Tom.
