Michael growled under his breath. That little brat had pushed her to the ground. He watching a little girl and who had seemed to be her older sister arguing from a nearby tree. And the older girl, had pushed her down, making her cry out.
"What a wimp!" She laughed and walked away. The little girl cried out some more.
"But Anna, you promised you'd take me!" The small child said with tears in her eyes.
"Why would I want to take a little brat out trick or treating when I could spend the night with my boyfriend?" The older girl, Anna, spat. The little one wiped her eyes with her sleeve.
"Because you promised!" Michael started to tighten around the handle of his kitchen knife. Michael knew that feeling.
"Why don't you just let it go, Ari, trick or treating is stupid anyway," Anna tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest. The younger one, Ari, stood up, brushed off her bottom? And stomped up to her older sister.
"Stupid is a bad word, Anna! And trick or treating is cool!" Ari stomped her little foot on the ground. Anna smirked and shoved her younger sister to the ground again.
"Ari, you're eleven-years-old, grow up!" Anna brushed past Ari, who had once again picked herself up. Ari started to cry. Michael found himself plotting ways to end Anna's life as painfully as possible.
Michael had been watching this small child for several months now. He didn't know why, but Ari had somehow intrigued him. He believed it was because she had a few things in common with himself. She had a short temper, she had his eyes, his dark hair, she could have practically been his daughter. But that wasn't all of it.
He leaned back against the tree and went into a flashback of him killing his older sister because of the same situation that Ari was in. His sister had chosen to spend the evening with her boyfriend, instead of taking him trick or treating, like she had promised. He remembered how she screamed and begged for mercy, and feeling no remorse for it. Since then, all of his victims had been the same, they all decided to do other things on Halloween. But this child, this little girl, had somehow piqued his interest. He would sit in the same tree, on the same branch, every day to see that she was safe, unharmed, loved. He didn't know why, but he had been getting these strange voices in his head. They all had something to say about Ari. But, what they had wanted wasn't blood. No, what they wanted was for Ari to be protected. They NEEDED Ari to be protected. He would get those voices every time he came and watched her sleep.
"Protect her," they beckoned, "don't let her be harmed," and they wouldn't stop. But Michael knew all too well; the only way for the voices to stop, was to give them what they wanted. So, from then on, protecting Ari had been his top priority.
Michael soon noticed that he had...urges. Not just any urges. Every night, when guarding her while she slept; he would get the urge to touch her hair, or even hold her, and rock her to sleep. But he knew better, so he had done his best to restrain himself.
But tonight, he couldn't help himself.
