The Captain

Prologue

1992

It was a normal day on the farm for Caroline and her husband Frank. The corn crops are flourishing and soon they will be ready to sell to the local supermarkets. "Let's go get the blanket and dinner; we will see the asteroid shower perfectly from the porch." Frank told his wife as she went into the kitchen to grab what was needed. Caroline loves the stars, as she should because she is an astronomer and teaches it at the community college, so this was very exciting for her. "This hasn't happen in years! It is going to look beautiful!" She stated. You can see the happiness glowing in her eye which made Frank happy. They have been together for years, since high school to be exact and through everything they still loved. The only thing missing from the family was a child but that couldn't be possible because, sadly, Caroline could not bear a child.

As they sat in the porch eating and drinking watching the sky through a telescope, just then Caroline saw something unusual. "Wait...that asteroid is coming to close to the atmosphere!" Caroline explained pointing at it. They watched as it got clearer and saw that it was headed straight for the crops. "Dear god!" Frank yelled as he saw thing fall on his crops. The first thing that went through his mind was that he couldn't sell those anymore, but was quickly brought back when he saw his wife run towards it. "What in god's name are you doing?! Are you crazy?! Caroline" he yelled running after her and grabbed her shoulder. "I'm going to see what it is all about! It isn't every day that you see this! Plus I have to rush because I'm sure that the government will be here in an hour or less!" She answered as she ran towards the giant rock. "It isn't as big as I thought it would be. It is the size of Boulder not much bigger." Caroline said in disappointment. "Wait look! There is a small thing right there in the middle....it's a-a baby?" Frank said in confusion. Caroline got closer to see a small baby girl no older than five months pale with pitch black hair. The baby looked up and smiled a smile of pure happiness and love. Caroline couldn't help but tear up a little. "We can't just leave it Frank. She is just a helpless baby. You know they will experiment and do God know what with this innocent baby." Caroline said grabbing the child taking it closer to Frank. "I don't know Carol, we don't know if it is human or alien or if it is evil." Frank stated but knew the little girl is far from evil, maybe it was the sparkle in her eyes and the innocence. "No, you are right. We need to protect her. She I but a baby." Frank said walking to the porch to grab the blanket and wrapped her in it. "What do we name her?" Caroline asked. And then they realized she had a gold little chain with a little pendant with the name DIANA engraved. "Guess we just found out." Frank said. "What happened to you little darling? Why were you sent here Diana?" Caroline said putting the baby to sleep.
