Dean had been in and out of sleep for about an hour and half now. He had a rough night on trying to put the baby angel to bed. He knew Cas didn't like sleeping but at the same time he needed him to sleep so he could catch up on his sleeping. Right as Dean was about to close his eyes he heard a loud thump. Immediately he shot up and looked around the room.
"Cas?" He asked. He waited for a few second before laying back down. Before his head hit the pillow again he heard the fledgeling call out for him.
"Dee!" Cas called out in horror from his room.
"Cas!?" Dean yelled as he sprung out of bed and ran down the hall to Castiel's room. Once Dean opened the door to baby angel's room, he saw that Cas wasn't in the bed anymore. Panic spread through Dean's mind as his eyes darted around the room. Right as he was about to leave the room to go search for him he heard the small whimpers coming from the other side of the bed. He slowly walked over and saw Castiel curled up trembling on the ground while his wings wrapped around him for protection.
"Dee..." Cas said just barely above a whisper as tears streamed down his face. The sight broke Dean's heart. He knelt down to pick up the baby angel but right as he did that, Cas went into sheer panic. Not recognizing Dean at all in his sleep. The fledgling thrashed around in Dean's arms, pounding his tiny fist against Dean's chest, trying to get out of his grip.
"Cas! It's me!" Dean tried saying but it didn't work. He was scared that he was going to drop Cas on the ground so he quickly sat down on the bed. "Come on buddy it's me..." He said. But Cas just kept fighting against him. Dean then tried to think of something. He wrapped his arms around Cas' thrashing body and placed his face in the crook of his neck. He pulled his knees up to Cas' back, basically making himself curl around the baby angel.
"Cas...wake up.. It's me Dean..." He whispered in his ear. "It's okay, it's okay now. You're safe...I promise you nothing is going to hurt you.. I'm right here. I promise you.." He continued to whisper in his ear. After about five minutes Cas finally began to calm down. After a few more he just laid limp in Dean's arms silently crying against his shoulder.
"Shh.. It's okay I'm right here..I'm right here." Dean cooed and he kissed the top of the fledgeling's head and massaged one of his wings softly. He knew that Cas loved it when he did that and he knew it'll help calm him down.
Cas was now awake but didn't say anything, he knew Dean wasn't going to ask him what his nightmare was about. Not until he's ready to tell. But for now all he does is nuzzle Dean's neck and just breathes in his sent. With Dean massaging his wings, the steady beat of his heart and breath, and his sent. Cas felt safe and started to feel tired again. His eyes began to drift some but as he felt Dean shifting around he tensed up thinking Dean was leaving again.
"Hey, hey, hey it's alright." He heard Dean whisper as was laying down. Cas just nuzzled closer as Dean was still wrapped around him. He felt Dean reach for the covers to cover them up and a soft kiss on the top of his head. "Night Cas." He whispered as he began to hum and rub Cas' back. Cas' eyes drift close and slowly fell back asleep curled up in Dean's arms this time.
