The Diary
I am always looking at him, and he is always looking at her.
My bestfriend whom I always love is in love with another woman, Nemain. I am sad with this fact, but I'm sadder that he died a year ago without anyone's knowledge except his parents that he has a serious sickness. And I regretted not confessing to him.
I went to Hiroki's house to visit how his parents were doing after his death. His mother greeted me happily and handed me Hiroki's diary.
"Hiroki's very adamant that we must not read it. But I'm very tempted to do so everytime I see this so I'm giving it to you. I feel safer if you keep it and Hiroki trusted you so much."
I get Hiroki's diary and went on top of a small hill with a small cabin. I sat down under the sakura tree and started reading the entries on his diary.
April 15th
Today is the school field trip. For most people, this is an average thing, but... being able to run in a relay or climb a mountain during this trip... were one of my small wishes.
I promised my mother that I wouldn't walk all the way. I am sitting under the sakura tree, and I saw everyone return with sparkling eyes. They said that the view was so beautiful, and that I missed it because I didn't participate. Nobody knows how much I wanted to climb the mountain. And while I was waiting for everyone, I found something strange. By accident, I saw a cabin...
"A cabin?" I repeated.
I look at the cabin near the sakura tree and enter inside. I follow where Hiroki went by following what's written on his diary.
... It's a hidden room on the other side of the wall, and that room was very strange. There's a whole in the ceiling of that cabin. The ray of light that came from the ceiling was shining on a number carved in the ceiling's floor...
"Number one"
That's the number in floor that I saw. What's with this room, I wondered. There are numbers all over the floor... I walk fast to get out of the cabin but I stepped on something. I fell down by a hole that I passed out.
When I woke up, I'm still in the cabin. I saw the hole where I fell down. What just happened? Didn't just I fell down from that hole? Was it a dream?
I walked out of the cabin and went to our school. To my astonishment, I saw Hiroki... and me?!
"What are you drawing? May I see" the me in that situation asked.
"I'll never show it to you" Hiroki said.
"Stingy!"
What's happening? Is it a dream? I saw Asrael's (that's my name) uniform. She was in third year college. Then, this is a year ago. By any chance, does it correspond to the number one I stepped on the cabin? Does number one donates that this event happens a year ago? Does it have to do with that hole? What's this... was that hole connected to the past and the future?
"Azrael! Hiroki!" Nemain called the me a year ago and Hiroki. "Let's do our best tomorrow." She said with a smile and Hiroki said okay.
As I watch the me a year ago, I realized that tomorrow is the athletic event. I wondered why he joined such event since he didn't join any athletic events during our elementary and high school days. The me a year ago get Hiroki's sketch pad and showed to him his own drawing.
