1934 to 1949: the years when
Samsui women first arrived.
Wearing their cloth hats,
As red as blood;
The blood shed through their toil.
Too busy working away,
No time at all for themselves or family.
Up at dawn, labouring and struggling.
Seen as admirable, they see it
As nothing but doing their job.
Home is now secondary to work.
The work needs to be done
So that they can give their family the best.
Sometimes nostalgia hits,
And all they want is home,
But that’s the very reason why they’re here;
For their family back at home.
Just something I wrote for a literature project (: But yeah!
