Part 1.

My alarm clock started beeping.

I sigh, exasperated. I feel a sharp, throbbing pain in my arm. It felt like someone stabbed me in my forearm. I dont look at it, though. Probably just a bad bruise. I turn off the annoying alarm clock.

It won't turn off. I start hitting the clock against my bureau, harder and harder and i get angrier every time I hit it. I finally got fed up with it and threw it against the wall, using all the strength I had left in my hurt arm. The springs and other little pieces flew throughout the air.

I could tell this was going to be one of my bad days.

I get up and noticed the hallway lights are off. Usually they're on.

"Dad?"

No answer.

"Mom?"

Still no answer.

I stood there silently, listening for any noises that they could be making.

Silence.

I open their bedroom door leisurely. It creaks every time I move it. By the time it is fully open, I see them laying on the bed, and it looks like they're sleeping.

"Mom! Dad! What are you trying to pull?"

They don't reply. I was confused.

I walked slowly toward Mom. Placing a hand on her, I pull away.

It was cold.

I checked the heat, and it was the usual temperature.

"Mom?" I repeat, hoping she will finally respond.

She remains motionless.

I lift the covers.

Mom and Dad are still motionless.

"Holy-" I put my hand to my mouth.

I saw their arms. There was a little hole in theirs. Bloody.

I scream.

"Mom! Dad!" I yell at the top of my lungs. I start bawling.

I knew only one thing at this very moment: I was parentless.

The emergency vehicles finally come. I hear their sirens.

I go to the front door and open it.

Gosh. So many cars in our small lot.

Police officers, doctors, firemen, and detectives all noisily walk in. One police officer walks up to me, their yellow notepad in hand.

"Jacob. Follow me."

I hesitate, then nod. I follow him outside into the humid summer air.

He chats with me a bit, asking about everything that happened.

"Do you know anyone that dislikes your family?" he questions.

I tilt my head a little to the right. "Not that I know of, sir."

He half-grins. "You probably don't recognize me."

I shake my head. "Doesn't ring a bell, sir."

"I'm your 2nd uncle Frankie. And I'll be taking you in if your parents are dead," says he.

I gulp, then nod. Not knowing what to do, I embrace him. Tightly. And I start to cry, knowing my parents won't make it.

He puts his arms around me. "Sh... everything is going to be all right."
