     I wish you were here.

I scratched the words out, my heavy eybrows furrowed. The word 'wished' didn't sound right; it didn't look right, either. I tightened my grip on the pencil.

I miss your smile. And your laugh. Everything about you, really. Even your habit of leaving the lights on whenever you left the room. I felt like a ghost, flicking switches as I wandered round the house after you.

My hand was shaking. I couldn't do this.

The pencil snapped between my fingers and fell to the desk, crumbling into dust. I unclenched my fist, feeling it ache slightly as I did so. Everything ached nowadays.

I stood up and abruptly walked away.
