True Colours

Chapter 1

"Mother! Mother come back" I screamed, running after her. When I finally caught up I was panting like crazy.

"Mother, where are you going?" I asked, innocently. She stroked my cheek as she looked into my eyes. They were full of remorse.

"Out."

" When are you coming back?"

She bended down to my level and kissed my forehead, She placed a silver necklace in my hand. It had a Big R pendant on it.

"Soon."

" Mom, whats this? " I asked, staring at the gem.

" A good luck charm, never take it off or the big bad monsters will get you. Now go back inside. I love you, sweetie." She said, hugging me then getting up to leave

"Okay, I love you too" I cheered, running back inside the house.

Little did I know, mom was never going to come back

I felt a cold, wet substance on my face. I popped open my eyes to see Mariam pouring a bucket full of water on my face, as soon as I realized what she was doing I hopped out of my bed and screamed.

"Mariam!! What the fuck are you doing!?" I yelled, running after her.

She giggled and ran as fast as her legs could take her. I looked ahead of her and saw that there was a corner. Ha, nows my chance. She ran right into the corner, looking for places to escape. Not on my watch. I picked her up and she screamed.

"Put me down!!" She yelled.

"Not until you tell me why you woke me up from my beautiful sleep!"

"Never!!"

I started to tickle her, she tried to break free of my grip but she was too weak, that's what the 7 year old gets.

"Ahem." We turned around to see Mrs. Savania. She's the owner of the foster home. She has brownish-grayish hair, pale skin and a permanent glare, she's really strict and mean. I guess her looks go with her personality.

"Annalisa you have a visitor." She said. I quickly scurried behind her. Who would want to visit me? I mean I don't even have any family that I know of. My dad's got a life sentence and my mom has been missing for 6 years.

"Annalisa, This is Mrs. Rivers. She'd like to adopt you!" She exclaimed.

" Uhh, wow. Thanks Mrs. Rivers. You do not know how much this means to me! "

" It's my pleasure. Please, call me Heather. " I Nodded my head in acceptence. Mrs. Rive- I mean Heather, looked like a nice lady, she had light brown skin, long brown hair and a pretty face. She looked about, 36.

"Annalisa, go to your room and pack your things." Mrs. Savania said.

I did exactly what she said and went up to my room to pack my things, But there's one thing I didn't expect. A bored looking Mariam on my bed. She looked up at me and I swear her eyes got lighter.

"D'ya wanna play cards?" She asked me.

"I can't" She pouted. "I have to pack."

" Why do you have to pack? Where are you going!?" she furrowed her eyebrows.

" I-I Got adopted " I said, my voice cracking cause I was trying not to cry.

"What your leaving me!?"

I felt tears going down my cheek. I Reached for Mariam and hugged her tightly. " I promised I'll come back for you. "

" Pinky promise? " She suggested, holding her pinky up. I my pinky finger with hers. " Pinky promise. "

" I'll really miss you, Annalise "

" I'll miss you too, Now go play cards with Mrs Savania. A girls gotta pack. " I said, ruffling her hair. She gave me one last hug and skipped away. Leaving me to pack.

After I finished packing I went downstairs, Where Mrs. Savania and Heather were. They were talking like they were old friends

"I'm done packing" I said, smiling like an idiot. They both turned around to look at me.

"Ok, lets go. " She said.

Before I could walk out the door. Mariam was running after me.

" Wait, Wait! " She said, flapping something in her hands.

" What? " I asked turning around. She gave a picture of me and her at a amusement park at one of our field trips.

" Keep this too remember me by. " She said

" But, what will you remember me by!? " I gasped.

"Keep it, I already have lots of pictures of you and me " she said, genuinely smiling at me

I picked her up and kissed her cheek. " Stay safe , Love. I'll miss you" I put her down and walked out with Heather.

" BYE!! " I Heard her say.

" bye" I mumbled, wiping one of my stray tears.

We walked into Heathers Car where she drove to god knows where her house is.
