I realized that it was very possible that the end of my life was near simply because I chose to get involved with the wrong sort of woman. It never once occurred to me that the drama she brought with her would bring me down in a literal blaze of glory. I'd already been nervous flying high above the sky in a shaky helicopter, and the moment she shows up, drama follows right behind her. I think I would've preferred the helicopter blowing up, rather than it spinning as violently as it was. It shouldn't have been possible for her to just suddenly appear just like she had. I may have had just a few seconds to realize it was her falling from a sky that seemed to brim with fire and debris and utter out a voice of concern before something intense smashed into the chopper.

One of my battle buddies who came to this sweltering hot place had said before we took flight to "Get to da choppa!" It was only a second ago that I saw him being flung out of the chopper, the next great Schwarzenegger's improv career coming to an end as he probably descended to the ground. His bravado was met with fate giving him a comeuppance for not attaching himself to the seat.

Crazy how I could deploy halfway around the world, and Areya still manages to find me.

The helicopter had been lurching so badly that I could barely make sense of what I was seeing. The heat and wind whiplashed against my face enough that I closed my eyes. More than that, as my body involuntarily leaned to the right, the seatbelt started to hurt. More than anything, I felt the seatbelt digging deeper and deeper into my abdomen and I thought I had screamed in agony. I felt my throat constrain, but I couldn't hear a thing coming from my mouth, because of the crunching and vicious uproar of metal being ripped apart drowning out my own sounds.

There was a snap that I heard pretty clearly, but amongst everything else that was happening, I paid no heed to it.

I should've been prepared for it.

Suddenly free of my constraints, gravity and velocity took hold of me and I found myself being flung against the wall immediately. Even with the body armor, or maybe because of it, the impact knocked out what little wind I had left in my body.

I went flying again, and the one thought that occupied my thoughts was my sweet Areya. I knew she was going to get me killed. Something had told me that getting involved with what I thought was a goddess of destruction would kill me. I thought I never would've seen her again after that cold bitter night two weeks ago.
