Requested by AliceLidell14~
Sorry for the wait! This was originally to be posted Saturday, but I had to go to a wedding and spend time with my other family on Sunday. And yesterday was killer on homework.
But I am in a SUPER GREAT MOOD because I am officially a member of the Disney Vacation Club, so I will hopefully be going to Walt Disney World within the next year or two! But the point is that I will be writing a lot of these, so if you have a request, go ahead and comment. (if you've already requested, just be patient, it'll be up soon.)
Anyways, enjoy! This is a scene from Walt Disney's 1951 version of Alice In Wonderland.
"How very curious," You say to yourself as you step out of the shadows of the trees. Standing before you was a cottage - which was one of the only normal things you've seen since you entered Wonderland - but you're sure that whatever is behind the white fence is just as mad as anything else you've witnessed.
You quietly make your way to the white fence and peek over. Sitting in the yard is a long table and a set of chairs that do not match. And at the far end of the table, two figures are drinking tea.
"Very Merry Unbirthday! Very Merry Unbirthday!" They sing together. "A Very Merry Unbirthday to us!"
You push the fence gate open and walk up to the huge red chair at the far end. You peak over it and your jaw drops. On the table sits several dozen tea pots. They whistle and steam to the tune of what the figures are singing. You stand up as high as you can, trying to see the two at the end, but the steam makes it impossible. You crouch down and look in the space between the handles of the hopping teapots. A rabbit - not like the white one you've been chasing - is dancing around. His brown fur is matted, his suit red. He's singing with the man next to him. The man is human, like you, with huge brown eyes and dark hair that is kept under a tall, green top hat.
"A Very Merry Unbirthday to me!" The hare sings.
"To who?" The man asks.
"To me!"
"Oh, you!"
"A Very Merry Unbirthday to you!"
"Who, me?"
"Yes, you!"
"Oh, me," He says, lifting his cup of tea.
"Let's all congratulate each other with another cup of tea!" The hare picks up another steaming pot and tips it into the mugs. "A Very Merry Unbirthday to you!"
You stand up out of your chair and clap. The man and hare both look in your direction and jump out of their seats.
"No, no, no!" They say, hopping over each chair to get to you. "No room!"
"But I thought there was plenty of room," You reply.
"Ah," says the hare, "but it is very rude to sit down without being invited."
"I'll say it's rude," The man says, His hands on his hips. "It's very, very, very rude!"
One of the yellow lids of a teapot rides up with the head of a small mouse. "Very, very, very rude indeed," It says.
"Oh, I'm very sorry," You apologize. "But I did enjoy your singing, and I was wondering if you could tell me-"
"You enjoyed our singing?" The hare asks excitedly, jumping on the arm of your chair.
"Oh, was it delightful?" The dark haired man asks, leaning over the table. Instead of placing his elbow on the tablecloth, he sets it in a cup of tea. He shakes his arm. "I'm just so excited." He smiles. "We never get company." He points to the cup. "You must have a cup of tea."
"Ah, yes!" He picks up the pot and pours it into the air. You watch in amazement as a saucer and cup fall into his hand. "Indeed. The tea! You must have a cup of tea."
"That's very nice," You say politely. "I'm sorry I interrupted your birthday party." You tuck a strand of (h/c) hair behind your ear. You take the cup of tea. "Thank you."
The hare jerks it from your hands. "Birthday party?" He asks. "Oh, no. My dear child, this is not a birthday party!"
"Of course not!" The man says. "This is an unbirthday party."
"Unbirthday?" You ask. "Well, I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand."
The Mad Hare sits back. "It's quite simple. Thirty days pas- no. An unbirthday- if you- have a birthday, then- you. . ." He stops and laughs. "She doesn't know what an unbirthday is," He whispers.
"How silly!" The man chimes in. You blush and look down.
Suddenly, the teapots begin to dance and whistle again. You look up and smile, watching in amazement.
"Now, statistics prove, prove that you've one birthday."
"Imagine, just one birthday every year!" The hare says.
"Ah, but there are three hundred and sixty four unbirthdays!"
"Precisely why we're gathered here to cheer!"
You stand up and cheerfully say, "Why, then today is my unbirthday, too!"
"It is?"
"What a small world this is!"
"In that case-" Suddenly, they both grab your hands and pull you away from the table. They spin in a circle around you, singing, "A Very Merry Unbirthday to you!"
"To me?" You ask.
"To you! A Very Merry Unbirthday-"
The Hatter lifts his hat, revealing a pink cake. "For me?" You ask.
"For you!" They say, handing you a pink cake.
The dark haired man touches your arm gently. "Now blow the candles out my dear, and make your dreams come true!" He swipes his finger across the frosting and places his finger in his mouth.
You blow the flame away and smile. Your smile disappears when you realize the candle is sparking. You drop it and watch the cake fly up to the sky.
"A Very Merry Unbirthday. . . to you!" The cake explodes in the sky in a boom of fireworks. Your smile returns, and you hope that the rest of your time in Wonderland is just as wonderful as this.
