*Castiel's POV*
I wake up a minute before my alarm goes off at six thirty. I rub my eyes sleepily as I get out of my comfy bed and trudge to my closet. I pull out a pair of black jeans and a soft grey sweater. My alarm makes me jump as I slide on my pants, making me knock my books off my desk. I hurry over to my phone and turn it off, not wanting to wake Gabriel just yet. I groan and slip my sweater over my head. First days of school are so bad. Good thing it's my last year. I walk to my bathroom and don't even bother with my hair. I just brush my teeth and walk to Gabe's room. I hear a muffled 'no' when I knock.
"Gabirel, come on. You have to get dressed." I tell him.
"Why?" He asks.
"Oh I don't know, maybe because it's the first day of school." I remind him. Did he seriously forget?
"Oh shit! School?!" I hear a thud and then what sounds like him repeatedly saying 'fuck'.
"Meet me downstairs." I tell him and walk away.
"Ready for your first day?" My brother Lucifer asks with an evil smirk.
"No." I sigh.
"Awe, what's the matter Cassie? The bullies gonna get you?" Lucifer taunts.
"Shut up." I snap and fix me a glass of water.
"I'm only messing with you. It'll be fine. School isn't that bad." He tells me.
"Says the guy who dropped out in tenth grade." I say.
"I only did it because people said I couldn't. You're nothing like me. You just do what everyone else tells you to do. Maybe those bullies can teach you a lesson." Lucifer chuckles. My grip tighten around my glass and I'm about to yell at him when Gabe walks in. He's wearing an army jacket with a black T-shirt. I can tell from here his jacket pockets are loaded with suckers. He even has one sticking out of his mouth right now.
"You ready, Cassie?" Gabe asks. I nod and we get our school things and my trench coat, then walk out the door. I start the car when Gabe gets in and head to school.
"Do you know where all your classes are?" I ask him.
"Cas, it isn't my first year. I can manage." Gabe tells me.
"But you're only in tenth grade. Everything is different." I explain.
"I know where I can find help if I need it. No need to worry." He says.
"When you say that, it really makes me worry." I chuckle slightly. We pull into the school parking lot and Gabriel jumps out of the car. Why is he so excited?
"Ah," Gabe says, sniffing the air. "First day and it already smells like regret and despair." I shake my head and we start for the school.
"Heh, just like your room, Cassie." Gabriel laughs.
"Oh shut up." I smile and nudge him.
"Alright, have a good day Cas." Gabriel tells me and he walks off towards his hallway.
"You too." I call after him but I doubt he heard me. I take a deep breath and walk to my locker. I look at my schedule to see what class I have next. English. I put my backpack in my locker and grab everything I need.
"Coming through!" I hear a guy yell. I turn and see a group of football players rushing down the hallway. They don't give me time to move so they slam right into me, making me drop my stuff.
"Guys look! It's Castiel!" Brandon, the captain of the football team shouts and points at me.
"Wow, I didn't think he'd actually come back to this school." Another guy laughs.I reach down to get my books and when I straighten up, someone hits my books out of my hands again. I role my eyes. Brandon. I start to grab them again but he shoves me into the lockers. I wince and try to move. He just laughs.
"What's a fag like you gonna do to me?" Brandon asks. I'm guessing it was a rhetorical question because he didn't give me enough time to answer before he threw me to the ground. He lifts me up and then slams me back to the floor, knocking the breath out of me. The whole team laughs and they walk away talking about how much of a fag I am or how weak I was. I clench my jaw and start to gather my things when I see another set of hands helping me. I look up to see beautiful green eyes staring into mine.
"H-h-hello." I stutter out, realizing the beautiful eyes belong to an even more beautiful guy. He grins widely, revealing perfect white teeth.
"Hey, I'm Dean." Dean says and stands up with me.
"Uh, I'm Castiel but you can call me Cas." I tell him.
"So that's what the football team is like?" Dean asks, raising an eyebrow towards the group of boys.
"Oh yeah. Well only to me. I guess I'm an easy target or something." I explain and start to take my things from his hands. Our fingers brush together and I blush. He doesn't seem to notice.
"I was thinking about trying out for football but I don't know anymore..." Dean trails off, still eyeing the team.
"Oh no! They won't be mean to you. I mean, you don't seem like the type they'd pick on." I tell him. I look up and he's smiling down at me.
"And what type might that be?" He smirks.
"Oh, y-you know, people like me." I try to say.
"What makes you think we're so different Cas?" Dean chuckles.
"For starters, you like sports." I point out.
"Awe, so if I do make the team, you won't be out there cheering me on?" Dean grins.
"W-what?!" I ask him. WHAT?!
"I'm just messing with you, dude." Dean laughs and pushes me lightly. I laugh too and nod.
"I, uh, I should get to class." I say awkwardly.
"Oh right! What class do have first?" He asks me.
"Mrs. Reagan, English." I tell him.
"Really? Me too." He grins and we start walking to class.
"Sit wherever you'd like." Our teacher tells us as we walk in. Dean and I go sit in the back of the room next to each other.
"Do whatever you'd like as long as you aren't loud while doing so." Mrs. Reagan says.
"When are football tryouts?" I ask Dean.
"Uh, tomorrow I think. Why?" He asks.
"I was just wondering if you were going to go. I mean, you said you might not so I didn't know..." I trail off awkwardly.
"Yeah, I'll probably go. My dad really wants me to play anyways." Dean tells me.
"What position?" I ask.
"Well Cas, I'd really like to go out on a date before we start talking about those things." Dean smirks.
"I-I meant football." I say, embarrassed. Dean chuckles.
"Quarterback." He smiles. His smile is so perfect. Too bad he's straight. If my friend Charlie were here, she'd tell me to turn him gay like she does with all the girls. Speaking of Charlie, where is she? I glance around the room but I don't see her. I know we have this class together.
"Hello? Earth to Cas." Dean says, snapping his fingers in my face.
"Huh? What?" I ask.
"I asked what classes do you have?" Dean laughs. I pull out my schedule and hand it to him.
"Who were you looking for?" Dean asks.
"Just my friend Charlie." I tell him.
"Girl or guy?" He asks, looking at my schedule.
"Girl." I say.
"Oooooo, is she your girlfriend?" Dean smiles.
"Oh God no. We're just friends." I say quickly.
"Alright then. We have four classes together by the way." He says. Before I can say anything, Charlie burst through the door.
"Sorry I'm late. I was battling an army and I couldn't stop." Charlie smiles. Her eyes go wide when she sees me and she rushes to the desk next to me.
"Hello Castiel." She smiles.
"Hey Charlie. This is Dean." I say and they say hi to each other. Charlie raises her eyebrows at me but I just shake my head and look to Dean again. I was about to start a new conversation when Charlie leans over and decides to talk to Dean.
"So Dean, is this your first year?" Charlie asks, already knowing the answer.
"Yeah, we just moved here." Dean answers. Charlie nods like it's an interesting thing and then goes in for another question.
"Who all is 'we'?" She asks.
"Me, my little brother, and my dad." Dean tells her. I can tell she wants to ask about his mother but she must have decided not to because she changes the subject.
"Are you liking it so far? Even though you've only been here for about twenty minutes." Charlie smiles. She glances at me out of the corner of her eye and then looks back to Dean.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool, I guess. I'm not that big on school though." Dean says.
"Well Cas here is a total nerd. If you ever need the answers to homework just ask him." Charlie grins. Dean smiles back and looks to me.
"Then I guess we better stay friends." Dean laughs.
"Do you two have any more classes with each other?" Charlie asks us.
"Yeah, we have all classes together except second period." Dean answers for us.
"I don't think I have second period with you, Cas. Let me see your schedule." Charlie tells me. I hand it to her and she reads over it.
"Awe, we only have first, fourth, and fifth together." Charlie pouts.
"At least we have some of the same classes." I tell her. Last year we only had one and we weren't allowed to talk in there. She nods and looks at Dean.
"Do you play sports?" Charlie asks him.
"Well sort of. I'm trying out for football tomorrow." Dean tells her.
"Oh my God, I love football season so much." Charlie smiles.
"You like the sport?" Dean raises an eyebrow.
"Hell no! I like to watch the cheerleaders." Charlie smirks. At first, Dean seems shocked that Charlie likes girls but then he just laughs.
"I have a feeling we're going to be good friends." Charlie and him laugh together. I feel a pang of jealousy but push it away.
"Cas here, doesn't like football." Dean says and claps a hand on my shoulder. I try not to blush as I look at Charlie.
"What are you talking about? Cas loves going to the football games with me." Charlie smiles. Dean gives me a confused look.
"I only go because you're my friend." I tell Charlie.
"Oh come on, you know you like to watch the fo-" She's interrupted by the bell. Thank God. Everyone gets up to leave.
"Bye Charlie. See you in fourth period." I call to her as she leaves. Charlie shoots me a smile before Dean speaks up.
"Bye Cas. See you soon." He smiles and then leaves. I walk out after him and then to my second period science class. When I walk in, almost all the seats are taken. I scan the room, looking for a seat and my heart sinks. The only open seat is by Brandon and two other football players. The desk in front of Brandon and in between the other two. I feel like crying. But I keep my head up and walk to the seat.
"Wow Cas. How nice of you to join us." Brandon says into my ear. I just ignore him and look at the teacher as she calls role. I blink tears away as the boys whisper rude things to me.
"Fag." Brandon chuckles quietly.
"Worthless." Another one tells me, tossing a wad of paper at my head. It barely misses my face. It hits the other football player beside me.
"Did you just throw this at me?!" The guy asks me.
"What? No." I tell him and look away. I see his hand go up in the corner of my eye and then feel my cheek sting. Did he really just throw it at me?
"I said I didn't throw it at you." I snap.
"Excuse me?" He asks, narrowing his eyes. I do the same.
"I didn't throw the paper at you." I say sternly. He chuckles and the other two join in.
"Okay, so you're trying to scare me?" He asks me.
"Sounds like he was hitting on you, to me." Brandon chimes in.
"You can't even get girls to like you, why would I?" I ask him. He just laughs again and then shoves me, hard. I fall out of the chair and he stands over me.
"What are you doing?!" Mrs. Raven, our teacher, asks him.
"Castiel started to hit on me." He pouts. The whole class looks at me and I fight back tears. I'm too shocked to defend myself so I just sit there, on the ground. I get evil smirks from the guys as I pull myself back up to my desk. Mrs. Raven gives me a pity look and begins to call role again.
