I peered out at the view before me. Tall green mountains and a vast turquoise ocean. It didn't feel 100% like a vacation though.
I went over to check my hopeless appearance. Icy blue romper, gladiator sandals, and matching blue and brown sunglasses. My hair was pulled back into a now slightly messing dragon braid and I, as usual, was not wearing any makeup but some chapstick. I felt pretty... until I checked the mirror. Oh well.
No one was particularly attractive on this trip. I peered around at our little camp. It was shabby, but a lot better than most of the huts of the natives. I didn't mind though, I mean what would you expect from a mission trip?
I had signed up for this mission trip unexpectedly. I hadn't meant to come 12 weeks ago but let's just say circumstances decided for me. Circumstances being Nick freaking Grey.
I resided on my cot in my clothe tent. My tent was homie. Riley Pennant and I shared two things. This tent, and our love for decorating.
Riley and I draped black and ice pink fabric all over until it was covered. We managed to hang a giant plastic chandelier in the middle with scented candles. Our cots were pushed together to give the tent more room. We had a very large comforter sitting atop that was double sided: the top side was frilly and ice pink, the other was white with little black hearts. The pillows matched both the inside and outside with black throw pillows on it. At the foot of our beds were our vintage trunks. We had a white rug that covered a good portion of the right side of the room where two big black and ice pink bean bag chairs sat. There was a long table to the left with a large mirror where Riley and I did our hair and makeup. And there was what we called a changing station that was just another piece of the fabric slid across to give the privacy I craved for. It wasn't hard to see we had a different view on "roughing it" than most.
"Hey Monica." Riley greeted me. I rolled my eyes every time she played with my name.
"Hey." I flopped on the bed. I hugged a pillow and frowned when Nick thoughts invaded my mind.
"Are you thinking of Nick again?" Get out of my head witch.
"No." I lied.
Riley threw a pillow at me. Girl yasss you are! You are so thirsty!"
"Shut up don't say that!"
I was still afraid to know what that word meant.
I was even more afraid she was right.

Mission director, Steve Brigs, called a staff meeting in the main tent. We gathered together like a herd of zebra and listened.
Mr. Briggs clapped his hands, "Alright guys as you know we have more staff members coming to the island to work with us. I want you all to make them feel welcomed and show them the ropes." We got here a week ago. We still need someone to show us the ropes. Least I do. With that we heard yelling and the sound of jeeps from outside. The new "recruits" we're here.
Most of them looked excited. Some looked a little nervous, and a little were blank. At least from the few faces I saw. They got out and we introduced ourselves. At least, everybody else introduced themselves. I was frozen in the grass horrified.
Circumstances had arisen.
