Chapter 1 *Edited*
(Lizzie’s P.O.V)
Finally! My dad has come to his senses and left that bitch I call a mother. She has given him hell ever since I was born. My dad always said it was a mistake sleeping with her at such a young age or for better word sleeping with her at all. Although he said that it was a mistake sleeping with her, he also said he wouldn’t trade me in for the world.
Wait, I’m being rude. My name is Elizabeth Reynolds. Lizzie for short. Only what I am mostly labeled as down here in Denton heights is White girl in a black girl’s body or 'Oreo' if you must. They only call me that because I am not what they expect me to be. What is the term most people use use for loud-mouth underdressed and ratchet black people? Oh yeah Ghetto.
Anyways, let's get back to me. As you probably already guessed I am African American, just not your stereotypical one from the hood. I don’t go out and steal nor have I ever done drugs or joined a gang. I don’t listen to rap, at all. I personally think Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and 2 Chainz or whatever are the most annoying people I have ever heard. Now I know what you’re thinking, ‘If you don’t like rap then you must like pop. You know people like Katy Perry, One Direction, Cher Lloyd, stuff like that.’
See I don’t mind them. I could listen to them and not have a problem. It’s just not my style. What I am mostly into is BMTH, Black Veil Brides, Ramones, Nirvana etc. My parents never approved of it though. They said it was way too white for me. What a subtle way to describe it. They always made it seem like I wasn't black and proud, but more so the opposite. Also if you haven’t caught on by now, yes my parents are just a smidge racist. Alright, I lied. They are seriously racist. They don’t want me near what they call ‘a white’ or 'a cracker' whatsoever. But do I listen? I think you all know the answer to that.
So, back to packing. I grabbed the leftovers of my closet and packed them into my suitcase. I sighed and looked around my room finally happy to be done. I am actually getting away from this hell hole. I grabbed the one outfit that was left on my bed and was about to go take a shower before we left, but I heard what sounded like yelling down the hall.
“Darius don’t do this to me! You just can’t up and leave on the spot like that and with my daughter!” I heard my mother shout.
"Yes I can. We already talked about this Kim, Lizzie wants nothing to do with you and you know that. Lizzie hurry up!” My dad shouted down the hall. Guess I'm not showering.
“Coming!” I shouted before closing my suitcase and heading down the hall. While dragging my suitcase into the living room, the yelling of my mother became louder and the smell of weed became stronger. This is another good reason why my dad decided to leave her. She literally smoked weed 24/7. It was so bad once that she offered me some when I was 7. 'Don't worry, you'll be fine' she had said just before my dad walked in. Let’s just say when he found out what was happening, he wasn’t too happy about it.
“Lizzie, tell me do you really want to go with your deadbeat father or stay here with me, the woman who gave you life?” I rolled my eyes at her. Could she be more pathetic? She really thinks that he is the deadbeat? He works two jobs while she sits around all day and does nothing but smoke with those dumb thugs. He is the one out there working his ass off day and night trying to support me and her. She is nothing to me.
“I am going with him.” I grabbed my suitcase and made my way towards the door. Stopping one last time, I turned around and looked her dead in her eyes. “And by the way he isn’t the deadbeat. I wouldn’t leave with him if he was. I think you should rethink who the deadbeat is before you open your mouth.” and with that, I walked out out the door. I didn’t want to hear another thing she had to say. I’m out of here with my dad. Out of that run-down school and out of this trash hole everyone calls Denton Heights. Here’s hoping my new school and neighborhood will at least be a little diverse.
