Kate was a girl of 15 and had always loved animals. Her mother, Tina, or Mrs. Gareth, always told her that somehow she must have been part animal. Kate would always awaken from the bird's singing and her lullabies were the cricket's chirping. She never knew where she had gotten her love for animals, but it was truly part of who she was as a person. Now as her mother lay on her death bed and her father gone. She didn't know what would become of herself.

"Kate," Mrs. Gareth managed to choke out, "You must be strong and never let people use your gifts against you." "Gifts, mother?" Kate replied, her face red and wet from tears. "You are a beautiful girl Kate, and you are capable of more than you know." Just as her mother finished those words she slowly shut her eyes and her face became motionless and blank. Kate reached for her mother's hand and buried her face in her mother's empty, yet still warm, loving body and wept.

After awhile of sobs, Kate went out of her mother's room, and told the doctor,"She's in a better place now."
" Where will you go," the doctor paused for a minute then continued,"Now that you're alone?"
Kate, still trying to get used to the fact that her mom was really gone, "I don't know, I guess I was worried about my mom and not what would become of me." She replied, trying to act brave, yet she knew that she wasn't succeeding.
"There is an orphanage a few towns away from here," The doctor tried to say, only to be cut off.
"No! I won't go to an orphanage!" "I still have a father out there, so I'm not an orphan. And I'm old enough to get a job and take care of myself, until I find him."

With that she went to room slammed the door behind her and cried, she knew that even if she did find her dad, that he didn't love her. And she knew that it would be difficult for her to get a job, after all she was only 15, and her experience was little. So she sobbed and sobbed until she fell asleep with the terrible lonely feeling haunting her for the rest of the night.
