Summary: Angeline's reality is shattered when she learns that it may not, in fact, be real at all.
~PROLOGUE~
"Is that her?" William asks. Mr. Brown nods. "She's so young, though!"
Brown leans against the door frame. He looks at the girl - a teenager, caramel-coloured hair, eyes closed softly, high cheekbones - and sighs.
"Fifteen is old enough, William." He turns to me. "Don't you think so, too, Sammy?"
I nod vigorously. Being sixteen myself, fifteen still seems young, but not too young.
"Mr. Brown," I say cautiously. "How do we know if we're right?"
He pulls his arched eyebrows together, and locks his grey eyes with my brown ones. His forehead is very wrinkled and he doesn't have laugh lines. He is very tall.
"Do you have a theory that we're wrong?" He hisses so very quietly. I shake my head. Considering we've been friends for years, I shouldn't be this scared of him. I'm not really scared, I guess. I just don't want to be wrong.
"Well, then." Brown smiles at me stiffly. "What are we waiting for?"
I know what I'm waiting for.
I'm waiting for a sign of any kind, telling me what to do.
I'm waiting for someone to tell me this is all fake.
I'm waiting to wake up.
