"We have to tell them that we know." Alyssa demanded. I agreed with her, of course. However, I don't think that my parents would appreciate the fact that I kept a secret like this from them. Actually, I think that they would be even more hesitant to tell us what's going on. It's almost like when you break your parents wedding picture frames. You have to tell them eventually, but trying to grow the courage to actually speak up is the hardest part.
"We will. Not now!" Calum whisper-talked. We all decided to help with dinner so that while we were cleaning up dishes and things, we could eavesdrop on our parents just in case they began to debate again.
I grabbed the salt shaker and shook it a few times into the large pot of the canned vegetables on the stove. I craved a fresh salad and a burrito from Chipotle. Right now, this will have to do.
"What am I supposed to be doing?" Kyle stupidly asked. "Go wash the dishes in the sink. Cal can help if he wants but there shouldn't be very much in there." he rolled his eyes and dramatically walked across the clean kitchen to the sinks. We decided that Ferra could use a break, and because of my recent helping her out, I knew what to do. Tonight we were cooking canned vegetable soup, and we were also making the rest of the chicken we managed to keep fresh during the power outage. Turns out, the backup generators for the freezers had worked the entire time, leaving us more food then we had thought we had.
"Shouldn't we just add these all together?" Alyssa questioned. "I hadn't really thought of doing that, I just assumed that if someone didn't want soup, they would have another option of chicken and a side of green beans."
"Oh, I see." she said with a slight smile. I generously returned one, hoping that I hadn't sounded as cocky as I had in my head.
"Almost done?" a head peeked through the door. "Hey Mr.H!" Kyle greeted. Calum gave his father a smile. "Yep."
"Ferra?" I called out the doorway when Mr. Hood left. "Where are the bowls at?" I nearly yelled, while still trying not to burst the eardrums of everyone beginning to congregate in the mess hall.
"In the cabinet to your left!" She appeared in front of me, Liam by her side.
"Ah, Thank you!" I replied, going to get the correct utensils and things.
"Lets eat!" I heard my dad suggest. Everyone lined up and began walking into the kitchen to say grace.

After dinner, it was our job to clean up. While it wasn't all that fun to clean people's dirty plates, we still had the chance to hear what we've been waiting for.
The clinking of the dishes in the sink ran through my head and I tried to push them out to listen to my parents, but it's harder than it seems when it comes down to it.
I swept the broom across the floor, picking up nearly non-existent dirt and other crumbs, but still doing a good job altogether. I still had to mop and wipe down the counters, so I may as well start somewhere.
"Wanna switch now?" Alyssa asked, winking, as the door was halfway open. "Yeah, sure." I replied, nudging the guys to put our plan into action.
I threw the broom onto the floor and along went the dustpan with all of the dirt in it. I held back a sneaky smile as the dirt fell into various piles right in front of the door. "I'll.. Help you with.. that." Kyle said in a dramatic voice. I mentally face-palmed at the fact that he was given an actual job that required attempting to succeed. "We'll help too, you big clutz." Calum gave me a wink as he bent down. The plan was falling into action as we had desperately hoped it would.
The murmurs amongst our parents became clearer to us immediately. The slight mumbles formed into words as simple as that.
"I'm not sure about the rest of you," Mr. Hood began, "But I am going to stay and fight for this place. This is our home and we've worked on getting it together for years!" I watched Kyle crinkle his eyebrows in thought.
"We don't have the manpower, or even the ammo." Sam blatantly replied. I heard a sigh fall from Wes's lips.
"WE CAN GET THE AMMO." My dad's voice rose as he desperately tried to gain more people to stay and fight with him.
"I'm not letting you put our family in danger like this. We have children!" Marcus and Katie stood up, defending their innocent children playing cars across the room.
"What if there was some sort of backup plan for the kids and the people who don't want to fight?" Calum thought outloud. My eyes widened. We were dead meat.
"Although you weren't supposed to be listening, I'm down to try and formulate a plan. Either way, success is our only option, failure's not. We either stand up, or we step down and leave this beautifully created place to be stolen." Mark finally spoke up.
"Lets get a good nights rest, and we will have a formal meeting after lunch. You guys can attend this one, since the cat is obviously out of the bag now." My mom replied.
"Wow. I was not expecting that they would be very happy with us right now." I said under my breath.
"We aren't very happy, actually. Nothing we could do now anyways." I looked up and there stood all of our parents. I nervously laughed a little bit.
"Finish your chores and get to bed." My father told my brother and I. We nodded our heads, not wanting any trouble with him tonight.
