Esmerée's POV
I lay on his chest as he breathed slowly. I could hear his heartbeat and could feel his arms around me. What was I doing? I was getting too attached to him... "Emerald..." I rolled onto my back and propped myself up with my elbow. "Yes?" He gave me another kiss and handed me the cape. "You might want to cover up." I giggled. He was still so innocent but I wrapped the cape around me as he asked. "What about you?" He grabbed his pants and pulled them on in one movement still laying there.
"Have you ever felt this way before?" I asked him. He shook his head and took my hand. "Only with you." Now that made me sad. I was going to have to finish this quickly before things kept getting worse. "Hey, I never did tell you my real name did I?" He rolled to his side, interested. "No... I guess you didn't." I sighed. "My real name is..." I heard a rustle of the leaves and both our heads snapped to the side. Feldspar again.
He cleared his throat. "I'm sorry to interrupt you but I have one last request from you Emerald." I tightened my grip on the cape. "Please tell me your real name. I don't want to forget you." That question caught me off guard. "Uh well... I was about to tell Marcus here so... I guess.... Sure." I breathed in and Feldspar walked closer. "Also, I know who stabbed you." I looked at Marcus and he was fuming. "Where's that bastard?!"
Feldspar took some dust that resembled some that I had and dropped it in the air. Suddenly a soldier appeared out of nowhere. "Hey!" It was the same soldier that I had beaten. Marcus stood and walked over violently. He grabbed him by the shirt and lifted him. "You're going to rue the day you dared stab my woman!" The man with brown shaggy hair flinched at his hostility. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to stab her! I was aiming for another..."
Feldspar pulled out a knife. This was turning ugly. "Wait!" They both looked at me confused. "Emerald, he was trying to kill Feldspar and he stabbed you!" I shook my head. "An eye for an eye would leave everyone blind... But I spare him from bleeding to death. I have another way..." I said cryptically. They were both still confused. "My real name is Esmerée and I need you three to say my name now."
The three looked at each other and Marcus let go of the shaking soldier. He walked over to me and took my hand. "Esmerée...?" He clutched at his heart and he dropped to the ground. "Marcus!" Both of the other men ran to me kneeling down next to Marcus. "Esmerée, what happened?" The both said at the same time and they too as well crumpled in pain. I knelt down next to him and I held the cape around my body and held Marcus's hand. "I'm sorry for everything." I didn't notice I was crying until he raised his arm already half stone to wipe them.
The stone advanced faster and he couldn't drop the arm to a natural position. I saw that the three were almost completely done now. "Esmerée..." I looked down again and Marcus was crying. "No, don't cry. I'll be alright." He slightly smiled and uttered softly his last words. "Only you..." And just like that those three men were gone. Only one of them really mattered to me. The other two, one of them had tried to rape me and the other, kill me.
Now I was out of control sobbing. I didn't even have something to remind me of him... I ran back to camp and entered Marcus's tent. I pulled on some brown pants and a white button down shirt between the tears that were blinding me. I quickly ran to my tent and grabbed my things. My sword, the list and the amulet. I turned around and found the dust. I glared at it and threw it against the ground. "Go to hell!" The bag shimmered and then disappeared.
I stood there just staring at the ground. I guess I'm walking. I wiped my eyes and walked out with everything in hand. As I was reaching the other side of the forest I saw a horse tied to a tree. An idea popped into my head and I hesitantly walked over to it looking around. I wasn't the one to steal but I needed transportation.
I untied the horse from the tree and mounted myself with a huff. I led the horse towards the side of the forest I hadn't come from and took off at great speed. I rode until I came upon a small village. I entered with caution and all I saw were very poor people.
I covered my mouth with one hand. God, what had happened to these people? I looked around and saw people were staring at me hungrily. I felt pity but there was nothing I could do. At the end of the village I saw a small girl that ran over to me. She was skinny and was very dirty. She had dark brown hair and green eyes. She couldn't be more than 6 years old. "Momma?" She innocently asked. "I'm sorry, I think you've got me confused for someone else." She shook her head. "No, you're my momma." she paused for a second looking at the horse. "Where are you going momma?" She grabbed the horses tail and it reared neighing in surprise.
I fell flat on my back and into the mud. The little girl giggled. "Now you're all dirty. Now you can come back home." I sat up and saw my horse galloping away and I looked at the girl standing there. I didn't know why but I felt an ominous aura around her. Like I couldn't trust her. "Ummm... I guess..." She smiled widely at me. A little to widely and laughed. "C'mon!" She ran into the forest without warning. "Wait!" I stood up and tried to follow her into the ominous forest.
