We awaited in golden half-light, glancing ahead with morose stares. Hunched over the podium was the Leader, appearing much like the shadow he had suddenly become. His eyes scrutinized the crowd momentarily, as if for the first time in his life. Overpopulation truly was exhausting this world. There were people far beyond what his eyes could descry.
"Now," He bellowed into the speakerphone with confidence. "Evacuate!" As soon as that word left his mouth, people began to push and shove. Most people looked helpless, mortified... Those far in the back already lost hope and relinquished.
Suddenly, the arena closed off from the ground, grumbled, and arose. Down below, the other people looked small and fragile, on the very world that was soon to end. Children blinked, oblivious; parents screamed, hopeless.
Once we were far enough, and the planet equally tired enough, it shattered into fragments more numerous than the stars.
