~Hey guys :D I’m really sorry for making you wait so long, I know it’s the worst thing I could do to my readers (if I have any at all) because I just started the story… I had a massive writers block so I was stuck with a half-written chapter until last weekend but now it’s here! Enjoy~

Chapter 2

His face seemed familiar somehow. I wondered where I had seen this man before but I couldn’t remember. When he started to speak, I got carried away by his extraordinarily high voice that was calm but still his body language revealed that he felt uncomfortable, just like most people do at the dentist’s. While explaining he clenched his fists and his legs were trembling slightly.

Unfortunately, instead of listening to Mr. Quinn’s explanations, I found myself thinking about anything but professional issues. What did he do for a living? Why did he come here of all places? Had he found his significant other already? I had to admit he was really attractive… Wait. How dare I think about relationships? I should have learned my lesson after what happened when I was with Joel. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of him. It was only a matter of time until he would find out where I was. Luckily we hadn’t been together for too long so he had not met my family yet. I could still escape to my sister’s. But what about my workplace then? It would mean a 4 hour drive to work every single day. Was that worth it? Or should I just shut the office down and… Stop, Kate, focus now. Shit. What did he even say?

“Alright, please open your mouth so I can have a look at it.” To my surprise, I managed to sound convincingly confident and professional, despite the thoughts that were circling around in my head.

Mr. Quinn’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of the probe in my hand. I glanced at it. Was he serious? This thing had been used to the extent that it didn’t even have a proper point anymore. We definitely had to order new ones.

“It won’t hurt.” I smiled reassuringly, which caused his muscles to relax. Due to my (hopefully temporary) inability to focus on anything, I could not find out right away what was wrong with him (or at least with his teeth) but after removing the probe from his mouth, an inaudible sigh of relief lingered in the room.

“I guess this could get a bit complicated. As you already pointed out, your molar dentures are not exactly the newest ones so we’ll have to replace them but in order to do so, we will first of all have to treat your gingival pockets, which, unfortunately, takes quite a while, so I’m afraid you will spend quite a noticeable amount of time in this office and we will see each other again very soon, Mr. Quinn.”, I told him with a wink.

“Well, I don’t mind that! I suggest you call me Kellin then?”

“Okay… Kellin.”

He held out his hand. Taken aback by his genuine smile, I shook it and motionlessly held my breath after he had left the room so no one would know I was eavesdropping just to know when I would finally see him again.
