At the beginning of time there were seven gods. Tyra, and her mate Barthos, the brothers Greydon and Rynuth, Sayda her mate Azul, and Lia. Together the seven gods had enough power to create a wonderful land, which they called Earth. On Earth there were thousands upon thousands of beautiful creatures, but two species stood above the rest.
The first species was the humans. Such small creatures, but they possessed a fair amount of intelligence. They knew about their creators and built many shrines to honor them. They thought themselves the smartest, but the gods knew better. The dragons, creatures the humans viewed as beasts, were vastly intelligent, and they had the strength to match. Of all their creations, the gods loved the dragons the most.
But the dragons and humans were rivals. They waged hundreds of bloody battles against each other, but neither species ever proved superior. After hundreds of years of bloody battles, a few of each species trued to make piece, but their languages were too different, and communication proved impossible.
The gods hated to see the destruction of their land and their precious creatures, so they gifted the few dragons and humans that quested for peace between the warring nations. A select few gained the ability to talk to the other species. But every the gift came with a price, and each human could only talk to one dragon, and each dragon only one human.
Even with this setback, the two species managed to make piece with one another. If the dragons moved to the mountains the humans would leave them alone. The peace between them was uneasy, but it lasted.
And the Bond between the species stayed. Some of the children inherited the ability to communicate, but the ability stayed dormant until their sixteenth birthday. Each would be marked, and they would be drawn to each other. Once they found each other, they would be connected until death. The Bond was a sharing of souls, and the bond-mates could feel each others pain and emotions. If one were to die, the other would live the rest of their life feeling empty, like part of them was gone.
Through the Bond the truce lasted for one thousand years, until King Argnas invaded the dragon's land. The dragon king, King Tanath, responded by attacking the human city of Ajol.
And so the war began, but the Bond wasn't broken. The human king began to hunt down the connected humans, so they fled to live with the dragons. So the only form of communication was broken, and many people lost hope of the conflict ever being resolved.
But there is a legend, little know to most humans, that tells of a chosen human that can speak to all dragons. They called this hero the Blessed One, and only the Blessed One will be able to stop the vengeance the dragon king is unleashing.
