It was around dinner when your cellphone rang. “Hello?” you said after flipping it open.
“Dude! Get ready ‘cause I’m gonna be at your place in five!” That was the entire conversation you and the caller had. You obviously knew who it was; the loud, excited voice belonged to your boyfriend, Alfred. You gave an irritated sigh, getting changed into some nicer clothes. You had to admit, you were really annoyed with Alfred. It was your third year together, today being your anniversary. You hadn’t talked to him all day, slowly growing more irritated as the clock ticked the time away. Exactly five minutes passed when the knocking began. You opened the door and your (e/c) orbs were met by his bright and happy blue ones. “Hey Babe!” he said excitedly as he pulled you in for a kiss.
“Hi.” Was all you said in response.
He frowned at you. “what’s wrong babe? You look angry at me.” He said a bit nervously as he watched you. “Are you mad at me or something?”
“No.”
“You sure?”
“Positive.” The word came out as a growl.
Alfred, being the loveable idiot he is just smiled at you as he took your hand, leading you to his slightly beat up truck. “that’s great.” He said as he opened your door for you and helped you in.
‘That Jerk!’ You thought angrily as he got into his truck too. ‘How could he forget about today? Does our anniversary REALLY mean that little to him?’ You silently fumed beside Alfred in your seat, and he pulled you closer to him as he drove out of town. “Where are we going.” You asked, unable to help but feel a little curiosity eating at your mind.
“It’s a surprise.” Was all he said with a grin that didn’t help improve your mood. After a while of driving he made you close your eyes and promise not to peek. You agreed and waited, frowning slightly as you heard Alfred get out of the truck. You sat in silence, straining to hear what Alfred was doing outside of the truck, but to your dismay you couldn’t hear anything.
“Okay babe.” You heard Alfred say as your door opened, and you were suddenly pulled into Alfred’s strong but gentle arms. “You ready?” ‘
You gave a small nod. “Good.” He said. “Just don’t open your eyes quite yet.” He carried you, making sure your eyes stayed closed. He set you down, keeping you in his arms. “Okay, you can open your eyes now.” He whispered in your ear, and you opened your eyes.
The scene before you made you gasp in shock and surprise.
Alfred had taken you to a small cliff that overlooked a beautiful lake, and at the time he had taken you the moon was high and beautiful, providing a soft and gentle light that cascaded over you both. Fireflies fluttered around you both before quickly zipping off and away from you and Alfred. “A-Alfred..” You stared at him with a light blush tinting your cheeks. Alfred brushed a strand of you (e/c) (e/l) hair behind your ear with a soft smile, holding you close to him.
“You thought I forgot, didn’t you?” He murmured as he kissed the corner of your mouth. You looked away, feeling guilty now.
“I-It seemed like you did…” You mumbled quietly, eyes downcast.
Alfred lifted your chin and his eyes locked with yours. “I know. I didn’t want to ruin this all for you.” He stepped back and took a breath before he got down on one knee, taking your hand as he removed a small black box from his coat pocket. “____ ____” He said, using your full name as he stared into your eyes. “Will you marry me?” He opened the small box and offered you the ring with a beautiful (e/g) in the middle. You blushed even brighter, staring at him and were at a loss for words. You flung yourself at him, kissing him deeply and loving as he slipped the ring onto your ring finger. “____, I love you.” He whispered as he kissed you again.
“I love you Alfred.” You whispered and kissed him again.
“Happy anniversary.”
“Happy anniversary”
