Shortcomings (A Louis Tomlinson Fan fiction) AU

"Would you like a menu?"

I looked up to see a blonde woman in her late twenties with 4 piercings in each ear and holding out menus. She was new, I can tell.

I nodded and took one from her. I heard the clackety-clack of her heels as she walked away.

Hmmm? Should I order the the English breakfast or try something new? Yep, that's it. I only live once so I might as well try it.

"But I already got us tickets to The Goo Goo Dolls!!" a girl nearby exclaimed. I couldn't see her face because her back was to me. She has long auburn curly hair that falls to her waist and she was talking to a lanky, brunette guy.

Before you start judging, I wasn't eavesdropping. It's just that curly hair over there was talking so loud and I am seated two tables away from her and the man she's with. The café wasn't that overcrowded so you can really hear what she's chattering about.

"Look, I can't come and if I did, wouldn't that be called cheating?" the bloke in front of the girl said.

I can tell that the guy was obviously trying to control his temper.

"It's not cheating! It's simply two friends going to their favourite concert together!!" she said, or should I say, practically begged.

"I'm sorry it had to end it this way but I can't go and this is probably the last time you'll ever see me. I had a great adventure though and you are a terrific person." The guy stood up and extended his hand but the girl didn't even reach for it, so the guy sighed and left.

Wow, I thought these kinds of events happen in a soap opera, turns out all I need to do was go to a diner and just look around.

"Excuse me? You ready to order?" the same waitress with the multiple piercings asked. She looks so bored I bet she didn't see what just happened.

"Peach Danish and tea please." I replied, forgetting about the thing I wanted to try. The waitress went away.

I glanced at the shop's clock and saw that it was already four thirty. He's late. As usual.

"Here's your order." the waitress came back with the Danish and coffee.

Well, that was fast.

The girl who talked so loudly got up and dropped a tenner on the table and left the coffee shop. She got tears in her eyes and she was very near to bawling.

I didn't know what I was doing but I grabbed the peach Danish and ran after.

I must be insane. I don't even know this girl and yet here I am chasing her. Who knows where she's going? And who knows what's going on in that mind of hers?

I was practically running after her like some wild dog but I didn't stop. Not until I reach her.

You couldn't lose her in a crowd because of her wild, curly hair. She looks like she's riding a horse. She suddenly stopped running then started brisk walking.

So I decided to slow down too so I wouldn't be too obvious. She turned left and stopped to a mini playground. She sat down in one of the benches where babysitters or mothers sit down to talk to other babysitters/mothers while their children play.

I decided to go around the back so it would look like that I just saw her right now and just approached her.

"I like The Goo Goo Dolls!" I blurted out. I didn't know why I said that but it just came out! I swear, my mouth has a brain of its own!!

Curly hair looked up with tear strained eyes. She was clutching in what I suppose to be the concert tickets. They were crumpled and wet from her hands.

"If it makes you feel any better, I like Goo Goo Dolls." I repeated. I smiled at her. I gave her my best smile because she was now practically glaring at me.

"Excuse me?" she said. If you could picture her voice it would be like strawberries in a blender.

I smiled and extended my hand with the Danish, "Here have my danish,"

She looked at my hand then back at my face then back at the danish. "I don't want your help or your Danish! I don't need help from strangers!" she screamed as she slapped the Danish on my hand and ran away from the bench.

There goes my Danish.

I walked back to the coffee shop empty handed. The girl and my Danish were gone. So much for being a Good Samaritan. I grunted as I kick a pebble on my way.

I got to the coffee shop to finally see that curly haired lad I wanted to see but instead of being welcomed by his beautiful smile I was greeted with a glare from that waitress with lots of ear piercings!

"That's him!" she yelled and pointed at me like I'm some kind of criminal.

The waitress, the manager (I know he was the manager because of his tag on his uniform) and the rest of the coffee lovers turned to see with quizzical looks on their faces.

"He's not a thief. He'll pay for it right now." Harry, my best mate ever, stood up and came to my rescue in this situation that I don't even know what about.

"Now give her the money if you want us to be both kicked out of here" Harry whispered to me.

Huh? I did what I was told and that's when it hit me. I ran off with the Danish without paying for it!

Hours later....

"You did all that for a person you don't even know?" Harry asked as he made himself comfortable on the couch we bought.

Harry and I got home after that coffee incident. Harry used his charm to convince the manager and the piercing waitress that I wasn't trying to steal them some Danish. I also had my photo taken just in case I decided to do it again which I think won't ever happen. Harry promised not to be late again so he can always watch me during our coffee time.

"Yes. But I'm not going to repeat that! It was so stupid of me to even chase her like I know her or something!" I exclaimed with pure disgust. I've been raised to be a good person and to help people who are in need but I didn't expect to get this in return. Was it so hard to just shake your head and leave?

"Did you even get her name?" Harry inquired. When I'm this crazy, Harry is the calm one. When he's the one being insane, I keep calm. That's how we work.

"No and I'm not planning to." I scoffed. I tried to help her and I get yelled at. People these days.

Harry chuckled then got up, "Come on, let's get your anger out in one of these." and went to our air hockey table.
