I quickly walked down the street, clutching the bread close to my chest. I had found half a loaf of bread in the Bakery's Trash cans. It was stale but I didn't really care. It was still edible. As I approached the hideout I made sure that no one was around, before quickly ducking under a chain-link fence. As I walked in the door, I heard Zeke say “Is that-" he paused briefly, staring at the loaf in my hands, "Bread?" He walked up to it to touch it. I wouldn't blame him; it’s been at least a month since we've seen a loaf of bread around here. "Yep" I said holding the loaf out so Zeke could see it better. "but it’s a bit stale." I said. "I don't really care. As long as its edible its fine with me!" He said, reaching for the bread. "May I?"

"Sure. Just save some for Kathryn" I said letting Zeke break of some for him and some for Kathryn. He then raced upstairs and I followed him. Kathryn looked at the bread in disbelief. "Did... Cade.... you...bread...found?" she stuttered. I stifled a laugh due to Kathryn's confusion. "Yeah, I found it by the Bakery. In the trash."

"Damn. What a waste" Kathryn said.

"I know" I said. "Hey, By the way I found a cellar filled with food and supplies yesterday, if you want to go get it but it’s outside the wall." I looked a Zeke then Kathryn. They both stared at me as if I'd just said “Hey; by the way I found a HEAP of food but threw it in the river because I didn't think we needed it.”

"We will go get it in the morning." Kathryn said after a minute or two. Zeke nodded frantically.

                                                             NEXT MORNING*

It was just past dawn. The best time to go outside the wall. I know what you’re thinking. But some of the Black dogs might still be out. That is true but they won't risk being out in the sun to try and hunt down prey. They will just try once the sun goes down. So ultimately you have more time than if you woke up at say, 10am. But anyway, we headed out towards the ruins of an old city and the shed with the cellar. When we arrived we went into the cellar and the others looked around like there haven't seen this much food at once before. Oh wait, they haven't. "We need to get as much as we can and go back. That way if we need more there will always be some," I told the others while I was stuffing my bag with cans, bread, and water bottles. The others did the same. As we were about to head up the ladder. I heard a clap of thunder. I cursed under my breath. “We need to hurry! There is a storm on the way. And the Black Dogs come out during bad weather!” I said climbing faster. As I reached the top of the ladder I heard rain drops hitting the tin roof of the shed. As the others scrambled up the ladder I poked my head out of the door to take a look. The clouds were a while away but it was still raining. “Hurry!” I said as we stared to race out the door of the shed. And that’s when I heard it. The high-pitched shriek that turned my blood cold.
