Erin
"Erin! Phone!" dad suddenly shouted, bringing me out of my usual daydream.
My heart skipped a beat; nobody ever rang for me. The only time that ever happened was jobs.
"Oh my god!" I squealed. "No, be calm, be cool," I mumbled myself.
As I descended down the stairs, I took several deep breaths and did my best not to give myself false hope, but I was failing already. After months of rejection I'm finally getting a chance to do what I've always wanted; travel the world. I took the phone off dad and smiled at him. He stayed by my side, giving me a cheesy grin and a thumbs up for luck; he's so cute.
"Hello?" I murmured.
"Is that Erin Costello?" an American voice asked - this was looking good.
"It certainly is."
"My name is Adam Elmakias-" I gasped a little too loud. "Ah, so you've heard of me." he chuckled.
"Heard of you?" I gasped. "You're on the list photographers I want to meet before I die. You're one of my heroes."
"Wow..." I heard him mumble. "Well anyway, I'd like to put an offer your way."
I stayed silent for a moment, attempting to calm myself down. My heart rate felt like it had doubled in the few seconds we'd been speaking. I stupidly nodded, completely forgetting I was on the phone, which made me more flustered and my heart rate increased again.
"And what offer would that be?" I asked, smirking to myself - I knew exactly what it was.
"I'd like to offer you the opportunity to work with me." I could actually hear the smile in his voice.
I bit my lip in an attempt to stop myself from squealing out loud, but a small squeak managed to escape. Adam giggled down the line and I finally mustered the courage to say something.
"That's...that's amazing." I breathed, running a hand through my hair. "But when you say work with you...?"
"Photographing bands, touring with bands, festivals all over the world..." he explained. "And I'm actually going on quite a big co-headline tour in a few months so I may or may not need a little help," he added with a chuckle. "I came across your social media pages after a recommendation from Kerrang! and I have to say I'm impressed by your work. I'd love for you to join me."
"C-can I have a day or two to think about this?" I stuttered. "It's just...I need to fully think it all through and talk to my boss and stuff."
"No problem! Just drop me an email when you've decided! Nice talking to you, Erin."
"Same to you, Adam." I smiled.
I disconnected the call and put the phone down, then went into dad. He was literally on the edge of his chair; obviously, he'd been listening in. My head was spinning as I walked through the door, still not totally convinced that actually just happened. Of all the people in the world, why did Adam choose me?
"Well?"
"I...I asked him to let me think." I blushed, sitting on the sofa.
"Erin!" he tutted. "This is your dream! You always say how much you want to work for one of these amazing photographers and travel the world, so do it while you have the chance."
"But," I muttered. "I feel terrible..."
"About what?"
"Leaving you..." I murmured.
"Erin, look at me." dad demanded, getting serious now. "I'm a grown man of 50 years of age, who's raised 2 kids all on his own. I want you to do this! You deserve to be happy and if this is what it takes, then so be it."
